VOLUNTEERS TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS THROUGH COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL: THE CHAPTER'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM, WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1998 WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF 35 COATS. THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL CHILDREN SERVED HAS ESCALATED OVER TIME. ALL RECIPIENTS, CHOSEN BY SCHOOL COUNSELORS, FALL BELOW THE NATIONAL POVERTY LEVEL AND COUNSELORS REFER CHILDREN WHO HAVE THE GREATEST NEED. THE COUNSELORS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS AGREE THAT NEW CLOTHING RAISES CHILDREN'S SELF-ESTEEM, ALLOWING THEM TO ATTEND SCHOOL DRESSED WELL AND READY TO LEARN. EACH FAMILY IS PROVIDED A VOUCHER REDEEMABLE AT LOCAL FRED MEYER STORES IN ORDER TO SHOP FOR SCHOOL-APPROPRIATE CLOTHING. DURING THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR 3,136 STUDENTS, KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 12, IN THE BEAVERTON AND HILLSBORO SCHOOL DISTRICTS WERE PROVIDED VOUCHERS. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GREATER PORTLAND ALSO PROVIDES REQUESTED CLOTHING (SUCH AS NEW COATS, JEANS, UNDERWEAR, AND SOCKS) TO PORTLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PTA CLOTHES CLOSET. DURING THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR, AND ESTIMATED 918 CHILDREN WERE SERVED WITH $15,000 WORTH OF CLOTHING PURCHASED WHOLESALE.


DURING THE CHAPTER FISCAL YEAR ENDING MAY 31, 2022, ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GREATER PORTLAND MEMBER VOLUNTEERS DONATED 35,072 HOURS OF SERVICE AND COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS DONATED 2,058 HOURS TO PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS DESCRIBED BELOW. THESE TOTAL 37,130 HOURS HAVE AN ESTIMATED NET VALUE OF $1,103,355.08 AS CALCULATED USING THE HOURLY RATE OF $25.84 BASED UPON THE AVERAGE HOURLY EARNINGS OF NON-AGRICULTURAL WORKERS FOR THE TIME PERIOD OF JANUARY - DECEMBER 2021 AS DETERMINED BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR'S DEPARTMENT OF LABOR STATISTICS, PLUS 15% FOR ESTIMATED FRINGE BENEFITS.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.OTHER PROGRAMS - THE CHAPTER ALSO SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING: ASSAULT SURVIVOR KITS: VICTIM OF ASSAULT, TREATED BY SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINERS, WHO LEAVE THEIR CLOTHING FOR FORENSIC EVIDENCE WERE PROVIDED WITH NEW OUTFITS TO WEAR HOME. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GREATER PORTLAND WORKED WITH NURSES AT 17 HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CENTERS IN THE TRI-COUNTY AREA. VOLUNTEER MEMBERS PARTNERED WITH RAPID SAVE INVESTIGATIONS. IN FY2021-2022, THE SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINERS WERE PROVIDED WITH 85 ASSAULT SURVIVOR KITS TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO VICTIMS. CORDERO RESIDENTIAL: OPERATED BY JANUS YOUTH PROGRAMS, CORDERO IS AN INTENSIVE RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT HOME FOR TEENAGE BOYS. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GREATER PORTLAND VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED ACTIVITIES, PROJECTS, AND OUTINGS FOR RESIDENTS TWICE EACH MONTH. IN ADDITION, VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED AND CELEBRATED BIRTHDAYS, SPECIAL OCCASIONS, PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND GRADUATIONS. DURING FY2021-2022 THE CHAPTER SUPPORTED 19 YOUNG MEN. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO STUDENTS ENTERING TRADE PROGRAMS AT PORTLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE, HEREINAFTER REFERRED TO AS PCC. PCC FOUNDATION STAFF AND ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GREATER PORTLAND CHAPTER MEMBERS SCREEN AND PRIORITIZE APPLICANTS. FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE CHOSEN, TUITION, BOOKS AND MATERIALS, AND SUPPLIES MAY BE FUNDED. DURING FY2021-2022, 13 DESERVING STUDENTS WERE AWARDED A TOTAL OF $20,000.
