SKAGIT LAND TRUST PROTECTS LAND TO PASS ON HEALTHY ECOSYSTEMS. WE ALSO PROTECT PLACES THAT ENHANCE ALL PEOPLE'S QUALITY OF LIFE. WE WORK WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO STEWARD PROTECTED LANDS. CONSERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP OF LAND ARE FOUNDATIONAL PROGRAMS. OTHER AREAS OF FOCUS INCLUDE: EDUCATION AND OUTREACH INCLUDING A YOUTH PROGRAM AND A CITIZEN SCIENCE PROGRAM; PUBLIC POLICY; AND; JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN CONSERVATION. LAND CONSERVATION: SIX PROJECTS WERE COMPLETED AND 15 NEW PROJECTS STARTED. PURCHASED LAND TO EXPAND THREE CONSERVATION AREA. PROTECTING A NEAR-URBAN FOREST . EXPANDED CONSERVATION OF SHORELINE IN THE SKAGIT AND SAMISH WATERSHEDS THROUGH DONATIONS AND PURCHASES. PROTECTED FOREST FOR THE LARGEST GREAT BLUE HERON NESTING AREA IN THE WESTERN USA. WORKED WITH PARTNERS SUCH AS ASSISTED THE CITY OF ANACORTES ACFL CE PROGRAM, AND ASSISTED STATE PARKS TO SECURE LAND FOR DECEPTION PASS STATE PARK.
STEWARDSHIP: 725 STEWARDSHIP VOLUNTEERS GAVE 2378 HOURS TO CARE FOR AND MONITOR 91 PROPERTIES OR CES. SLT RESTORED WILDLIFE HABITAT ON FIFTEEN PROPERTIES. TRAIL, WILDLIFE VIEWING AND PUBLIC ACCESS WERE EXPANDED OR ENHANCED ON SIX PROPERTIES. PROPERTY CLEAN-UPS OF SCALE TOOK PLACE ON THREE CONSERVATION AREAS TO READY THESE SITES FOR HABITAT RESTORATON.
OUTREACH AND COMMUNICATION: SLT LANDS HAD OVER 28,500 VISITS. PUBLIC CONSERVATION EASEMENTS SLT CONSERVES HAD OVER 143,000 VISITS. 725 STUDENTS FROM LOCAL SCHOOLS VISITED A SLT PROPERTY TO LEARN ABOUT NATURE AND STEWARDSHIP. INSTALLED A VIRTUAL MONITORING SYSTEM FOR CITIZEN SCIENCE IN MARCH POINT HERONRY. SLT HELD 14 COMMUNITY AND MEMBER EVENTS.
