PROTECTING LOCAL ECOSYSTEMS - WE PRESERVE AND RESTORE KEY LOCAL ECOSYSTEMS TO MAINTAIN THE PHYSICAL AND BIOLOGICAL INTEGRITY THAT WILL ALLOW WILDLIFE TO MOVE ACROSS THEIR HISTORIC RANGES AND FOR THEIR HABITATS TO THRIVE. IN 2021, WE RELEASED A VIRTUAL STORY MAP OF THE IMPACTS TO WILDLIFE FROM THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER WALL. WE PROVIDED RECOMMENDED RESTORATION ACTIONS FOR 13 SITES ALONG THE BORDER IN ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO TO THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION. AND WE COLLECTED WILDLIFE CAMERA TRAP DATA TO INFORM WILDLIFE CONSERVATION ACTIONS AND MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR JAGUAR, RED WOLF, PRONGHORN, COUGAR, ELK, BEAR AND OTHER ICONIC NORTH AMERICAN SPECIES.
ADVANCING INNOVATIVE POLICY - WE ADVANCE ADOPTION OF LEGAL FRAMEWORKS BUILT AROUND THE NEEDS OF NATURE. IN 2021, WE SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR THE CREATION OF A NEW 350 MILLION DISCRETIONARY FEDERAL GRANT PROGRAM TO REDUCE WILDLIFE-VEHICLE COLLISIONS. WE SECURED STATE COMMITMENTS TO PROTECT WILDLIFE CORRIDORS THROUGH LEGISLATIVE VICTORIES IN CALIFORNIA, COLORADO AND VIRGINIA. WE MADE BANNING OF MINING IN MEXICO'S NATURAL PROTECTED AREAS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY. WE HOSTED A THINK TANK OF LEGAL EXPERTS TO DEVELOP LAW AND POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO SUPPORT CONSERVATION OF 30% OF LANDS AND WATERS BY 2030. AND WE CREATED A WILDLIFE CORRIDOR ACTION PLAN TO GUIDE POLICY DECISIONS OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION.
TRANSFORMING TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS - WE ADVANCE PROJECTS THAT REDUCE, MINIMIZE, OR ELIMINATE COLLISIONS CAUSED BY WILDLIFE CROSSING ROADS AND OTHER TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS. IN 2021, WE SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR THE CREATION OF A NEW 350 MILLION DISCRETIONARY FEDERAL GRANT PROGRAM TO REDUCE WILDLIFE-VEHICLE COLLISIONS. WE COLLECTED DATA TO INFORM THE DESIGN OF WILDLIFE CROSSING STRUCTURES ON MEXICO FEDERAL HIGHWAYS 2, 14 AND 15, US INTERSTATES 10 AND 40, AND US HIGHWAY 395. AND WE HOSTED THE LATIN AMERICAN ROAD WORKING GROUP OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR CONSERVATION OF NATURE.
