OUR MISSION IS TO DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE THE EARLY CAREER OUTCOMES OF DC YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS OF COLOR BY CREATING INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND BY MOBILIZING EMPLOYERS, EDUCATORS, AND CITY LEADERS TO CREATE A LOCAL, DIVERSE TALENT PIPELINE. OUR WORK IS TO ENSURE THAT YOUNG PEOPLE ACQUIRE INDUSTRY-VALUED CREDENTIALS; PAID, RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE; AND SOCIAL CAPITAL.

INNOVATIVE PROGRAMSCITYWORKS DC HAS FOUR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT-FACING PROGRAMS: CAREERWISE DC IS A THREE-YEAR, INTENSIVE, CITYWIDE YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM THAT BRINGS REAL WORK EXPERIENCES, PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS, AND EARLY CREDENTIALING FORWARD IN A YOUNG PERSON'S CAREER. EMBARK IS A CAREER PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR RECENT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES WHO DO NOT HAVE A CLEAR PATH TO A FAMILY-SUSTAINING CAREER, WHICH CONSISTS OF WEEKLY ONE-TO-ONE COACHING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND JOB PLACEMENT SUPPORT SESSIONS. AON APPRENTICE SUPPORT PROVIDES WRAPAROUND SERVICES TO THE APPRENTICES AT THE AON CORPORATION EARNING THEIR ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE FROM UDC.


CITYWORKS DC HAS THREE PROJECTS THAT SEEK SYSTEMS-LEVEL CHANGE: THE CITYWIDE TALENT PIPELINE WORKING GROUP SERVES AS THE COLLABORATIVE LEADER IN FORGING NEW MULTIPLE PATHWAY PROGRAMS AND POLICIES FOR DC YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS ACROSS GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, PHILANTHROPY, AND NONPROFITS. HIRE LOCAL DC IS A COALITION CO-FOUNDED BY THE FEDERAL CITY COUNCIL AND THE DC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WITH SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT FROM CITYWORKS DC, LAUNCHED IN APRIL 2021 TO DRIVE THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN EMPLOYER-DRIVEN LOCAL EQUITABLE TALENT PIPELINE. ADDITIONALLY, IN FY23 THE P20W DATA DESIGN PROJECT WORKED WITH THE DC DEPUTY MAYOR FOR EDUCATION TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR A P20W DATA SYSTEM - INTEGRATING EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DATA FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA TO BROADEN STAKEHOLDERS' UNDERSTANDING OF EARLY CAREER OUTCOMES FOR DC YOUTH AND THE IMPACT OF THE P
