PLATFORMS FOR ADVANCED WIRELESS RESEARCH (PAWR): PAWR IS REVOLUTIONIZING THE NATION'S WIRELESS ECOSYSTEM WHILE SUSTAINING US LEADERSHIP AND ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS. FUNDED BY NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION AND A 30+ INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM OF THE NATION'S LEADING WIRELESS COMPANIES AND ASSOCIATIONS, PAWR PROJECT OFFICE (PPO) MANAGES THE $100 MILLION PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. MAJOR 2022 ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A) COMPLETING A SUCCESSFUL SPECTRUM SHARING DEMONSTRATION ON POWDER IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DOD; B) PARTNERING WITH ERICSSON TO DEMONSTRATE ON AERPAW HOW 5G-CAPABLE DRONES COULD SUPPORT PRECISION AGRICULTURE APPLICATIONS; AND C) STRENGTHENING SUPPORT CAPABILITIES FOR O-RAN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE PLATFORMS.

US IGNITE COMMUNITIES: THIS PROGRAM IS A NETWORK OF 50+ COMMUNITIES DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE ECOSYSTEMS FOCUSED ON IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE AND BOOSTING LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. A MAJOR 2022 ACCOMPLISHMENT INCLUDES CLOSING PROJECT OVERCOME, WHICH SUPPORTED THE DESIGN, DEPLOYMENT, AND TESTING OF SEVERAL ADVANCED WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS TO REACH UNDER- AND UNSERVED COMMUNITIES. SEVERAL PUBLICATIONS ON THE SEVEN COMMUNITIES' ACTIONS AND OUTCOMES WERE PUBLISHED. ACADEMIC JOURNALS ISOLATED THE WIRELESS INNOVATIONS AND THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF THE INTERNET IN UNCONNECTED AND UNDER-CONNECTED COMMUNITIES. US IGNITE ADDED ELEVEN NEW COMMUNITIES IN 2022, REPRESENTING A MORE THAN 20% GROWTH.
SMART BASES: IN 2022, THE US IGNITE SMART BASE PORTFOLIO INCLUDED RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES CONDUCTED AT FORT CARSON ARMY POST, MARINE CORP AIR STATION MIRAMAR, AND THE FORT MOORE ARMY BASE. THESE INITIATIVES INVOLVED THE DEPLOYMENT OF MULTIPLE SMART CITY SOLUTIONS ACROSS A DIVERSE RANGE OF TECHNOLOGIES, INCLUDING ENERGY MANAGEMENT, PUBLIC SAFETY, TRANSPORTATION, WEATHER, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. SEVERAL CUSTOMIZED SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS, INCLUDING A DASHBOARD PLATFORM, WERE DEVELOPED TO ENHANCE THE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY OF THESE INSTALLATIONS, ULTIMATELY IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE SOLDIERS RESIDING AND WORKING AT THESE FACILITIES.
