PLATFORMS FOR ADVANCED WIRELESS RESEARCH (PAWR): PAWR IS REVOLUTIONIZING THE NATION'S WIRELESS ECOSYSTEM WHILE SUSTAINING US LEADERSHIP AND ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS. FUNDED BY NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION AND A 30+ INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM OF THE NATION'S LEADING WIRELESS COMPANIES AND ASSOCIATIONS, PAWR PROJECT OFFICE (PPO) MANAGES THE $100 MILLION PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. MAJOR 2021 ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A) SELECTING ARA AS THE FOURTH PLATFORM FOCUSED ON RURAL CONNECTIVITY AND SMART AGRICULTURE; B) LAUNCHING THE AERPAW PLATFORM FOR GENERAL AVAILABILITY; AND C) ELEVATING THE POWDER PLATFORM'S EFFORTS TO ADVANCE WIRELESS NETWORK SLICING INCLUDING ANNOUNCING A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND DEMONSTRATION FEATURING NETWORK SLICING IN AN OPEN RADIO ACCESS ENVIRONMENT.
SMART GIGABIT COMMUNITIES: THIS PROGRAM IS A NETWORK OF 40+ COMMUNITIES DEVELOPING THEIR OWN INNOVATIVE ECOSYSTEMS FOCUSED ON IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE AND BOOSTING LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. A MAJOR 2021 ACCOMPLISHMENT INCLUDES THE ADMINISTRATION OF PROJECT OVERCOME TO SUPPORT THE DESIGN, DEPLOYMENT, AND TESTING OF SEVERAL ADVANCED WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS TO REACH UNDER- AND UNSERVED COMMUNITIES. IN ADDITION, AND AS A SCAN OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP, THE PROGRAM PUBLISHED "FOSTERING CIVIC TRUST" TO GUIDE MUNICIPAL LEADERS ON THE PATH TO LOCAL DECISION MAKING IN CYBERSECURITY, PRIVACY, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, DATA GOVERNANCE AND EQUITY.
SMART BASES: THE FORT CARSON SMART TRANSPORTATION TESTBED WAS COMPLETED IN 2021 AFTER SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOYING AN AUTOMATED SHUTTLE AND AN UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE. A FOLLOW-ON SMART BASE PROGRAM AT FORT CARSON CALLED THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR TRAFFIC AND WEATHER WAS AWARDED TO US IGNITE. THE TWO YEAR PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE THE BASE LEADERSHIP WITH A COMPREHENSIVE DASHBOARD TOOL FOCUSED ON TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AND THE IMPACTS OF INCLIMATE-WEATHER. THE DASHBOARD WILL ALSO PROVIDE INSIGHT INTO LOCAL TRAFFIC DISRUPTIONS AND ACCESS CONTROL POINT THROUGHPUT BASED ON REAL-TIME DATA ANALYTICS. SUCCESS AT FORT CARSON ALLOWED US IGNITE TO EXPAND THE SMART BASE PORTFOLIO TO FORT BENNING AND THE LAUNCHING OF THE SMART INSTALLATION AND COMMUNITY DASHBOARD PROGRAM. THIS DASHBOARD TOOL WILL DELIVER ON TWO DISTINCT ENERGY MANAGEMENT USE CASES AND ASSIST THE FORT BENNING LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM WITH AN INTELLIGENT VIDEO REMOTE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM. US IGNITE CONTINUED TO MANAGE THE 5G LIVING LAB FOR MCAS MIRAMAR WHERE A NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS WERE DEVELOPED AND PILOTED LEVERAGING THE NEWLY INSTALLED ULTRA-WIDE BAND 5G COMMERCIAL NETWORK.
