THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION SOCIETY FOR LAW AND POLICY (ACS) BELIEVES THAT THE CONSTITUTION IS "OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE." ACS INTERPRETS THE CONSTITUTION BASED ON ITS TEXT AND AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF HISTORY AND LIVED EXPERIENCE. THROUGH A DIVERSE NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF PROGRESSIVE LAWYERS, LAW STUDENTS, JUDGES, SCHOLARS AND MANY OTHERS, ACS WORKS TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY BY ENSURING THAT LAW IS A FORCE FOR PROTECTING OUR DEMOCRACY AND THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND FOR IMPROVING PEOPLE'S LIVES.

NETWORK ADVANCEMENT: THE DEPARTMENT OF NETWORK ADVANCEMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR STRENGTHENING ACS' NETWORK AND MEMBER ENGAGEMENT TO BUILD A MORE INFLUENTIAL PROGRESSIVE LEGAL COMMUNITY. THIS DEPARTMENT FOCUSES ON ENSURING THAT ACS' MISSION IS CARRIED OUT AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL WHILE SERVING THE NEEDS OF ITS MEMBERS. IT MANAGES ACS' STUDENT AND LAWYER CHAPTERS, ENSURES CONTINUITY OF MEMBERSHIP, PROVIDES CAREER ASSISTANCE AND MENTORING BOTH TO STUDENTS AND LAWYERS, AND ENSURES THAT ACS IS PLUGGED INTO PROJECTS AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL WHERE THE NETWORK CAN HELP ADD CAPACITY TO THE BROADER PROGRESSIVE COMMUNITY.
COMMUNICATIONS: THE EFFORTS OF ACS' COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT INCLUDE MEDIA OUTREACH TO PROMOTE ACS SPEAKERS, PROGRAMS AND PAPERS; MAINTENANCE AND EXPANSION OF ACS' WEBSITE AND BLOG; THE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLISHING OF PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS; AND THE CREATION OF TRANSCRIPTS AND VIDEOS OF ACS EVENTS.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAMMING: THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAMMING IS CHARGED WITH PROMOTING A PROGRESSIVE VISION OF THE LAW. THIS DEPARTMENT LEADS ACS' EFFORT TO PROMOTE SCHOLARLY AND SIMILAR MATERIALS TO HELP SHAPE PROGRESSIVE LEGAL THEORY, INCLUDING POLICY-RELEVANT WORK AND THE PRODUCTION OF EFFECTIVE MATERIALS ON CONSTITUTIONAL INTERPRETATION AND LEGAL POLICY FOR STUDENTS, LAWYERS, OPINION LEADERS AND POLICYMAKERS.
