FOCUSING ON HEALTHCARE, LEGAL RIGHTS, AND SOCIETAL ACCEPTANCE, WAVE AIMS TO ENHANCE THE WELL-BEING AND DIGNITY OF THIS MARGINALIZED COMMUNITY. UNMET NEEDS IN THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY HOUSING INSECURITY: TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS FACE A HIGH RATE OF HOUSING DISCRIMINATION AND HOMELESSNESS. A 2015 U.S. TRANSGENDER SURVEY FOUND THAT 23% OF RESPONDENTS EXPERIENCED HOUSING DISCRIMINATION IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR, AND 30% WERE HOMELESS AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIVES. HOUSING INSECURITY IS A PRESSING ISSUE THAT IMPACTS THE SAFETY, HEALTH, AND OVERALL WELL-BEING OF TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS. ACCESS TO GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE: ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE IS A SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGE FOR THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY. THE SAME SURVEY NOTED THAT 33% OF RESPONDENTS WHO SAW A HEALTHCARE PROVIDER IN THE PAST YEAR HAD AT LEAST ONE NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE RELATED TO BEING TRANSGENDER. MOREOVER, 25% OF THE RESPONDENTS REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH INSURANCE RELATED TO GENDER-AFFIRMING SURGERY. EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION IS ANOTHER CRITICAL ISSUE FACING TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS. THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG TRANSGENDER PEOPLE IS THREE TIMES HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. DISCRIMINATION IN HIRING PRACTICES, JOB RETENTION, AND WORKPLACE HARASSMENT ARE SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS TO ECONOMIC STABILITY FOR TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS.
