THE MISSION OF THE CRESTED BUTTE LAND TRUST IS TO FOREVER PROTECT AND STEWARD OPEN LANDS FOR VISTAS, RECREATION, WILDLIFE AND RANCHING, THUS CONTRIBUTING TO THE PRESERVATION OF GUNNISON COUNTYS UNIQUE HERITAGE AND QUALITY OF LIFE

THE PRESERVATION OF OPEN SPACE THROUGH LAND ACQUISITION AND EASEMENTS: A MAJOR MULTIYEAR PROJECT TO SUPPORT A FEDERAL LAND EXCHANGE AND ACCEPT A CONSERVATION EASEMENT ON MT EMMONS ADVANCED TO THE NEAR-CLOSING STAGE BY THE END OF THE TAX YEAR. CLOSING OCCURRED IN AUGUST 2024. WITH THE MT EMMONS PROJECT, THE CRESTED BUTTE LAND TRUST EXPANDED THE CONSERVATION PORTFOLIO BY 885 ACRES AND HELPED PROTECT CRITICAL WILDLIFE, RECREATION AND VIEW CORRIDOR FOR THE PUBLIC. IN ADDITION, THE LAND TRUST ADDED ONE OTHER CONSERVATION EASEMENT OF 40 ACRES LOCATED IN GUNNISON COUNTY NEAR MARBLE, COLORADO AT THE FORMER COLORADO OUTWARD BOUND BASECAMP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ASPEN VALLEY LAND TRUST AND PITKIN COUNTY.


STAFF MONITORED AND MAINTAINED 65 CONSERVATION EASEMENTS AND FEE OWNED PARCELS ACROSS 5700 ACRES. THE LAND TRUST IMPROVED TRAIL CONDITIONS SUPPORTED WILDLIFE HABITATS, CATTLE RANCHING AND RECREATIONAL ACCESS FOR THE PUBLIC. CRITICAL PARTNERSHIPS WERE ENHANCED THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH PRIVATE INDUSTRY, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND MISSION ALIGNED NON-PROFITS. PUBLIC OUTREACH PROGRAMS INCLUDED MANY FIRSTS SUCH AS THE DEBUT OF THE LAND TRUST'S SPANISH LANGUAGE FIELD TRIPS FOCUSED ON LOCAL SPANISH SPEAKERS WHO ARE NOT ALREADY ACCESSING LAND TRUST AND ADJACENT PARCELS FOR RECREATION.


THE CRESTED BUTTE LAND TRUST SUCCESSFULLY RENEWED OUR 5 YEAR ACCREDITATION WITH THE LAND TRUST ALLIANCE THROUGH A RIGOROUS MULTI-MONTH APPLICATION AND REVIEW. LAND TRUST ALLIANCE ACCREDITATION IS THE ONLY NATIONAL STANDARD FOR PROFESSIONAL LAND TRUSTS TO PROVE COMPLIANCE WITH BEST PRACTICES ACROSS MULTIPLE PROGRAM AREAS.
