Part 3
THE MUSIC LESSONS PROJECT HELPS CLOSE AN OPPORTUNITY GAP BY PROVIDING LESSONS FOR HARD WORKING STUDENTS WITH LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES AT TITLE I SCHOOLS IN THE SALEM-KEIZER SCHOOL DISTRICT. MUCH MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUCTION IS IN GROUPS AND MOST HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE ON ONE. LESSONS USUALLY BEGAN EARLY IN THE YEAR AND MORE WEEKS OF INSTRUCTION WERE GIVEN THAN IN PREVIOUS YEARS WHICH GIVES DEEPER LEARNING AND IS A KEY GOAL. MUSIC DIRECTORS REPORT SIGNIFICANT SKILL GROWTH, CONFIDENCE BUILDING, AND POSITIVE IMPACT ON PERSONAL SENSE OF SELF FOR THE PARTICIPATING 354 STUDENTS. THE PROJECT SUPPORTED 1,169 LESSON HOURS, FOR AROUND 2,107 LESSON SESSIONS AT CLAGGETT CREEK, HOUCK, LESLIE, PARRISH, STEPHENS, AND WALDO MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND AT MCKAY AND NORTH SALEM HIGH SCHOOLS. THIS VOICE, VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, BASS, FLUTE, CLARINET, SAX, OBOE, FRENCH HORN, TRUMPET, LOW BRASS, AND PERCUSSION INSTRUCTION WAS GIVEN ONSITE FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN BAND, ORCHESTRA, AND CHOIR CLASSES. WE RAISED MONEY THIS YEAR TO FUND 24-25 LESSONS CURRENTLY IN EIGHT SCHOOLS. THESE FUNDS, ALONG WITH ANY BALANCE, CAN FUND AROUND 1,900 LESSON HOURS.
