TO PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR THE GROWTH AND WELL BEING OF OUR GREATER VAIL COMMUNITY, RESOURCES HELPS PEOPLE IN NEED LIVE A HEALTHIER AND MORE INDEPENDENT LIFESTYLE.

FOOD BANK: PROVIDES FOOD FOR LOW INCOME-SENIORS, THE HOMEBOUND, AND INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES STRUGGLING WITH FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THIS INCLUDES MONTHLY FOOD AND HOLIDAY BOXES, AS WELL AS SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD ITEMS, DIAPERS AND PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS. OUR FOOD BANK SERVES OVER 275 HOUSEHOLDS EACH MONTH WITH SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD AND SENIOR MEALS THROUGHTOUT THE GREATER VAIL COMMUNITY. IN 2021 3,342 FAMILIES AND 12,851 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED. THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 5,565 LARGE BROWN BAGS OF FOOD. OVER 21,000 POUNDS OF FOOD WERE RECEIVED FROM PRIVATE SECTOR DONATIONS AND 258,000 POUNDS OF FOOD WAS RECEIVED FROM GROCERY STORES IN THE GREATER VAIL COMMUNITY. SENIOR MEALS: RESOURCES SENIOR MEAL PROGRAM BENEFITS HOMEBOUND, PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED OR CONVALESCENT INDIVIDUALS PROVIDING BALANCED SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION THAT IS NOT CARB OR SODIUM HEAVY. VOLUNTEERS DELIVER FIVE (5) FROZEN, HEAT AND EAT MEALS EACH WEEK TO THE HOMEBOUND. OUR SERVICE AREA IS CORONA DE TUCSON, RITA RANCH, CIVANO, AND ALL NEIGHBORHOODS IN THE VAIL SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE BONUS FOR THOSE WHO DON'T GET OUT IS SEEING A FIRENDLY FACE AT THE DOOR AND HAVING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A CARING INTERACTION.BACKPACK PROGRAM: EACH WEEK RESOURCES FOOD BANK VOLUNTEERS ALONG STUDENTS FROM THE VAIL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICTS PROGRAM, TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO WORK(TSW)FILL AND DELIVER BAGS OF FOOD, WHILE SCHOOL IS IN SESSION, TO STUDENTS IN NEED. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE AN AVERAGE OF 1,600 CALORIES AND 62 GRAMS OF PROTEIN TO STUDENTS THAT MAY FALL SHORT ON THE WEEKENDS. STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR THE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM ARE REFERRED TO RESOURCES BY THE STUDENT SERVICE COORDINATOR (SSC) AT EACH SCHOOL. THERE ARE 22 SCHOOLS IN THE VAIL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND IN 2021 A TOTAL OF 3,145 BAGS WERE DISTRIBUTED.
