CLIENT SERVICES: HUNGER FREE COLORADO'S (HFC) CLIENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT MAKES IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO ACCESS FOOD WITH DIGNITY USING A BILINGUAL FOOD RESOURCE HOTLINE, BILINGUAL COMMUNITY-BASED OUTREACH AND A STATEWIDE TRAINED AND SUPPORTED NETWORK OF OUTREACH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. DURING THE YEAR, OUR FOOD RESOURCE HOTLINE, THE MOBILE OUTREACH TEAM AND OUR OUTREACH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS CONNECTED MORE THAN 85,000 HOUSEHOLDS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD RESOURCES, INCLUDING THE SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP), THE SPECIAL SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN (WIC), THE FREE AND REDUCED PRICED LUNCH PROGRAM, FOOD PANTRIES, AND MEAL SITES. HFC AND OUR PARTNERS TOGETHER SUBMITTED ONLINE SNAP APPLICATIONS ON BEHALF OF MORE THAN 24,000 HOUSEHOLDS WHILE ALSO HELPING THEM LOCATE NEARBY AND CONVENIENT FOOD RESOURCES.
THE FARM TO FOOD PANTRY INITIATIVE: HFC ORGANIZED AND COORDINATES A GROUP OF MORE THAN 80 FOOD PANTRIES KNOWN AS THE COLORADO FOOD PANTRY NETWORK(CFPN). CFPN WAS FORMED TO ENABLE FOOD PANTRIES TO WORK TOGETHER IN MEETING THE NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES BY SHARING RESOURCES AND BEST PRACTICES. DURING THE LAST YEAR, HFC CONTINUED TO WORK WITH CFPN MEMBERS AND ABOUT 20 ADDITIONAL FOOD PANTRIES TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF NUTRITIOUS FOOD THEY COULD DISTRIBUTE BY SOURCING FOOD FROM COLORADO FARMERS AND RANCHERS. THIS FARM TO FOOD PANTRY INITIATIVE IS IMPROVING THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF FOOD PANTRY ITEMS AND IS REACHING AN ESTIMATED 100,000 FOOD PANTRY CLIENTS.
POLICY AND ADVOCACY: HFC'S POLICY AND ADVOCACY EFFORTS HELP ADVANCE POLICIES THAT INCREASE ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD ACROSS THE STATE. WITH OUR NATIONAL PARTNERS, HFC SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED TO SECURE FROM CONGRESS A SHORT-TERM FINANCIAL BOOST FOR THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM FOR THE COMING YEAR. HFC SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR 3 MILLION IN STATE FUNDING FOR THE FOOD PANTRY ASSISTANCE GRANT THAT IS DISTRIBUTED TO FOOD PANTRIES TO ASSIST THEM IN PURCHASING HEALTHY FOOD ITEMS FROM COLORADO FARMERS AND RANCHERS. HFC ALSO SECURED BIPARTISAN STATE LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT FOR A PROPOSED STATE HEALTHY SCHOOL MEALS FOR ALL BILL THAT WAS REFERRED TO THE NOVEMBER 2022 BALLOT.
