Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
HELP KITCHEN'S MISSION IS TO END HUNGER WITH NUTRITIOUS FOOD THAT FITS INTO THE BUSY SCHEDULES OF LOW INCOME, FOOD INSECURE FOLKS. SO OFTEN, EMERGENCY FOOD IS OPTIMIZED TO REDUCE COSTS FOR PROVIDERS, INSTEAD OF PRIORITIZING THE NEEDS OF THE BENEFICIARY. MANY INTERVENTIONS REQUIRE PEOPLE TO WAIT IN LONG LINES, PICKUP FOOD THAT MAY NOT MEET THEIR DIETARY AND HOUSEHOLD NEEDS, OR ARE LIMITED TO A SINGLE MEAL. THE EXPERIENCE IS OFTEN UNDIGNIFIED. HELP KITCHEN IS TACKLING THESE PROBLEMS BY CREATING TECH-ENABLED PLATFORMS TO MATCH FOOD INSECURE INDIVIDUALS WITH AVAILABLE RESOURCES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2022, HELP KITCHEN OFFERED AN ON DEMAND, EMERGENCY SERVICE TO MATCH FOOD INSECURE INDIVIDUALS WITH FREE, HOT MEALS THAT WERE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP AT PARTNER RESTAURANTS. SOMEONE IN NEED WOULD ACCESS THIS PROGRAM BY TEXTING "FOOD" TO A LOCAL NUMBER, AND THEN THROUGH A SERIES OF SIMPLE EXCHANGES THEY WOULD BE MATCHED WITH A LOCAL RESTAURANT THAT WOULD BE ABLE TO OFFER THEM FREE, READY TO EAT MEALS FOR UP TO EIGHT PEOPLE IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD. THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED AS PART OF THIS HOT MEAL PROGRAM PAID FOR THE COST OF THE MEALS. THIS PROGRAM WAS ACTIVE IN A HANDFUL OF GEOGRAPHIES, BUT THE THREE MOST ACTIVE AND IMPACTFUL CITIES WERE SAN FRANCISCO, DETROIT, AND METRO DENVER.
