MICAH 6 COMMUNITY IS A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION WORKING TO BUILD THE NEIGHBORHOODS THAT PONTIAC DESERVES. WE MANAGE COMMUNITY GARDENS, A PRODUCE STORE THAT WORKS TO FIGHT THE FOOD DESERT, CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING, COMMUNITY EVENTS AND MEALS, AND GENERAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SPROUT FRESH FOOD STORE - THIS MONEY SUPPORTS THE DAILY NEEDS OF THE SPROUT BUILDING WHERE WE HAVE A PRODUCE STORE THAT PROVIDES REDUCED-PRICED FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FOR OUR NEIGHBORS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOOD DESERT.

WE HAVE A VARIETY OF FREE COMMUNITY EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE ARE WORKING TO TURN AN ABANDONED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INTO A COMMUNITY CENTER, WE RAISE CHICKENS TO GIVE THEIR EGGS TO NEIGHBORS, WE HOST VOLUNTEER EVENTS WHERE WE EDUCATE PEOPLE ON LIFE IN PONTIAC, WE ALSO HAVE TWO EVENTS A WEEK WHERE WE OFFER FREE MEALS IN COMMUNITY.

WEBSTER - IN 2016, MICAH 6 COMMUNITY PURCHASED THE ABANDONED WEBSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO TURN INTO A COMMUNITY CENTER. AS THE BUILDING HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH DEVELOPMENT, IT IS BEING USED AS A STORAGE SPACE FOR PROGRAMMING MATERIALS AND FOR OTHER NON-PROFITS. IT IS ALSO BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE REST OF PONTIAC AS MICAH 6 IS DEVELOPING PLANS FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER.

COMMUNITY HOUSES - PROVIDE A PLACE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE NEIGHBORS CAN HANG OUT AND COME TO EVENTS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING HOUSING FOR SOME OF OUR FULL-TIME VOLUNTEERS SO THAT THEY CAN LIVE INTENTIONALLY AMONG OUR NEIGHBORS.
