THE CIVIC COUNCIL'S MISSION IS TO ACCELERATE GROWTH IN THE REGION'S PROSPERITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE BY STRATEGICALLY DEPLOYING THE PERSONAL AND CORPORATE RESOURCES, INFLUENCE AND EXPERTISE OF THE REGION'S BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS. THE CIVIC COUNCIL WAS FOUNDED IN 1964 BY A GROUP OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS WHO BELIEVED THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT THEIR RESOURCES AND INFLUENCE WERE COOPERATIVELY APPLIED TO SOLVE COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT COMMUNITY ISSUES. TODAY, THE CIVIC COUNCIL'S MEMBERSHIP CONTINUES TO CONSIST OF CHEIF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS OF THE LARGEST CORPORATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIPS IN THE KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN AREA.

THE CIVIC COUNCIL SPONSORS A NINE-MONTH CIVIC LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CALLED KANSAS CITY TOMORROW (KCT).THE CIVIC COUNCIL BELIEVES THAT THE ONGOING SUCCESS OF ANY COMMUNITY DEMANDS THAT ITS CURRENT LEADERS PUT CONSIDERABLE EFFORT TOWARD IDENTIFYING, ENCOURAGING AND DEVELOPING ITS FUTURE LEADERS. WITH A MISSION TO BE THE BEST SOURCE OF NEW LEADERSHIP ANYWHERE IN THE REGION, KCT HAS AN IMPRESSIVE TRACK RECORD AND A LAUDABLE LIST OF MORE THAN 800 ALUMNI - INCLUDING SEVERAL CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE CIVIC COUNCIL - WHO TODAY HOLD SENIOR POSITIONS IN BUSINESS, CIVIC, PHILANTHROPIC AND NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ALL ACROSS THE KANSAS CITY AREA.
THE CIVIC COUNCIL PARTICIPATES IN THE PLANNING FOR, AND FUNDING OF, A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY INITIATIVES TO FURTHER EDUCATION, A PROGRESSIVE CIVIC AND CULTURAL COMMUNITY, NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT, AND THE COORDINATION OF LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES. ONE OF THESE INITIATIVES IS KC RISING. PLEASE REFER TO SCHEDULE O FOR MORE DETAILS.
SEE SCHEDULE OKC RISING FORMED IN 2015 TO HELP KC GROW FASTER AND MORE INTENTIONALLY. IT IS BUSINESS-LED, METRICS-BASED AND LONG- TERM FOCUSED. KC'S BUSINESSES ARE POSITIONED TO LEAD THIS CHARGE BY NURTURING PARTNERSHIPS AND CULTIVATING INNOVATION. WE AMPLIFY COMMUNITY EFFORTS BY ALIGNING CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS, NONPROFITS, GOVERNMENTS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, HUMAN SERVICES GROUPS, CIVIC LEADERS, AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SQUARE, ACCELERATING A FUTURE OF INCLUSIVE REGIONAL PROSPERITY. THE ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS ARE LARGELY ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE THREE CO-SPONSORING ENTITIES, THEIR RESPECTIVE STAFF MEMBERS AND KC RISING'S DIRECTOR. ALL CO-SPONSORS CONTRIBUTE FUNDS AND/OR SUBSTANTIAL STAFF TIME TO THIS INITIATIVE. THE CIVIC COUNCIL HAS AGREED TO ACT AS FISCAL AGENT FOR KC RISING. ACCORDINGLY, MOST CONTRIBUTIONS TO AND OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENDITURES FOR THE INITIATIVE FLOW THROUGH THE CIVIC COUNCIL OPERATING ACCOUNT.
