HEAD STARTHEAD START PROMOTES THE SCHOOL-READINESS OF LOW-INCOME PRESCHOOL CHILDREN (AGES 3 TO 5), INCLUDING CHILDREN OF FEDERALLY-RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBES, ALASKA NATIVES, AND MIGRATORY SEASONAL AND FARM WORKERS, AND INFANTS AND TODDLERS (BIRTH THROUGH AGE 3) BY ENHANCING THEIR COGNITIVE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT SUPPORT THEIR GROWTH IN LANGUAGE, LITERACY, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL FUNCTIONING, CREATIVE ART, PHYSICAL SKILLS, AND APPROACHES TO LEARNING. PARENTS RECEIVE SOCIAL SERVICES AND PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES RELATED TO THE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM.
SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES (SSVF)THE SSVF PROGRAM PROVIDES SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO VERY LOW-INCOME VETERAN FAMILIES WHO: (I) ARE RESIDING IN PERMANENT HOUSING, (II) ARE HOMELESS AND SCHEDULED TO BECOME RESIDENTS OF PERMANENT HOUSING WITHIN A SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD, OR (III) AFTER EXITING PERMANENT HOUSING WITHIN A SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD, ARE SEEKING OTHER HOUSING THAT IS RESPONSIVE TO SUCH VERY LOW-INCOME VETERAN FAMILY'S NEEDS AND PREFERENCES.
CONTINUUM OF CARETHE CONTINUUM OF CARE PROGRAM PROVIDES AID TO ASSIST IN REHOUSING FOR VETERANS THAT MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: (I) DISABLED, AND (II) IN A HOMELESS/NEAR HOMELESS SITUATION; AND FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE: (I) HOMELESS, OR (II) HAVE BEEN A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, OR (III) LIVING IN A SHELTER, OR (IV) LIVING WITH FAMILY/FRIENDS BUT ARE BEING ASKED TO LEAVE.
PROVIDE RELIEF TO THOSE IN POVERTY BY PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THE LOW-INCOME POPULATION IN THE AREA SERVED THROUGH THE MEANS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS AND ASSISTANCE.
