PROJECT RATING PROGRAM: IN 2021, WE SUPPORTED 12 ACTIVE PROJECT RATINGS OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. OF THOSE COMPLETING THE RATING PROCESS, ONLY 1 PROJECT TOTALING 1.8 LANE MILES SUCCESSFULLY CERTIFIED, LOCATED IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA. THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE COMPLETED ITS FIRST CERTIFICATION ON A PORTION OF A TWO WAY COUPLE ARTERIAL IN A MAJOR BUSINESS CORRIDOR. THE PROJECT IMPROVED SAFETY FOR PEDESTRIANS, BICYCLISTS AND TRANSIT, ENHANCED ACCESS TO NEW MULTI-MODAL FACILITIES FOR BUSINESSES, AND SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVED THE TREE CANOPY, STORMWATER TREATMENT AND DRAINAGE IN THE PROJECT AREA THE PROJECT IS THE THIRD PROJECT IN NORTH CAROLINA TO CERTIFY SUCCESSFULLY SINCE INCEPTION OF THE RATING PROGRAM. IN 2021, CERTIFIED AND RATED PROJECTS DEMONSTRATED SUBSTANTIAL SAFETY AND MOBILITY IMPROVEMENTS FOR TRANSIT AND ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION, ENHANCED THE ENVIRONMENT, AND DEMONSTRATED HIGH MARKS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, SAFETY, AND QUALITY PERFORMANCE DURING CONSTRUCTION. THE TOTAL CONSTRUCTED VALUE OF COMPLETED PROJECTS IN 2021 WAS $10.7 MILLION.
EDUCATION PROGRAM: IN 2021, DUE TO COVID 19 THE TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES OF IN-PERSON EDUCATION FOR THE GREENROADS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION EDUCATION PROGRAM REMAINED SUSPENDED. THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED A VIRTUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE EVENT WITH INDUSTRY KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, ATTENDED BY NEARLY 400 PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. GREENROADS ALSO HOSTED FREE EDUCATIONAL WEBINARS. STAFF PROVIDED TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS WITH OUR INDUSTRY PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND UNIVERSITIES. 10 INDIVIDUALS SUCCESSFULLY EARNED THEIR FIRST STP CREDENTIAL OR ADVANCED TO A HIGHER LEVEL CREDENTIAL. GREENROADS ALSO PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES TO SEVERAL PROJECTS PURSUING CERTIFICATION.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: IN 2021, GREENROADS MAINTAINED ITS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY AND CONTINUED TO COLLABORATE WITH UNIVERSITIES, PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION CHAPTERS, OUR MEMBERS, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT PROFESSIONALS (STPS) AND INDUSTRY AFFILIATES AS PARTNERS. IN 2021, THE VOLUNTEER TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEES WERE CONSOLIDATED INTO ONE LARGER TEAM AND WORKED TOGETHER BY CONSENSUS TO HELP REVIEW, EVALUATE, AND DEVELOP VERSION 3 OF THE GREENROADS RATING SYSTEM. OVER 400 VOLUNTEER HOURS WERE INVESTED IN 2021.
