THE FRANCES MCGLANNAN FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO ASSIST FAMILIES OF ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS CHALLENGED BY DYSLEXIA AND RELATED LANGUAGE LEARNING DIFFERENCES MEET TUITION COSTS OF A SPECIALIZED SCHOOL. DYSLEXIA IS A SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITY WHICH RESULTS IN DIFFICULTY READING, WRITING AND SPELLING. IT CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR CHILDREN WITH DYSLEXIA TO SUCCEED ACADEMICALLY IN A CONVENTIONAL MAINSTREAM EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT. SPECIALIZED SCHOOLS PROVIDE INTENSIVE EVIDENCE-BASED INSTRUCTION STRUCTURED TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT THESE CHILDREN NEED. THROUGH THE HELP PROVIDED BY THE FOUNDATION, AT-RISK STUDENTS FROM LOW TO MODERATE INCOME FAMILIES ARE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE EARLY INTERVENTION PROVIDED BY A SPECIALIZED SCHOOL. THIS ENABLES THE CHILDREN TO LEARN TO READ SO THEY MAY REALIZE THEIR ACADEMIC POTENTIAL AND PERSONAL SUCCESS.AS A RESULT OF MANY DONORS, WE HAVE AWARDED $278,200 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS IN MIAMI, FT. LAUDERDALE, BOCA RATON AND JACKSONVILLE, FL AND IN MASSACHUSETTS SINCE THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR. THROUGH STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS, WE KNOW THAT ALL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS HAVE EXPERIENCED IMPRESSIVE OVERALL ACADEMIC GAINS INDICATING THAT THE SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION THEY ARE RECEIVING IS ENABLING THEM TO REACH THEIR ACADEMIC POTENTIAL. PARENTS HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR APPRECIATION FOR THE LIFE CHANGING OPPORTUNITY THAT THE SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE PROVIDED TO THEIR CHILDREN.
