READINGPALS IS OUR FLAGSHIP PROGRAM WHERE WE ACTIVATE COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS PRE-K MENTORS FOR THE DURATION OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. WITH 55% OF STUDENTS IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY TESTING NOT READY FOR KINDERGARTEN, OUR PROGRAM IS ESSENTIAL FOR OUR COMMUNITY'S MOST DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN.THE READINGPALS PROGRAM PARTNERS WITH TITLE 1 VPK CLASSROOMS IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND PROVIDES ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING FOCUSED ON BUILDING EARLY-LITERACY AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SKILLS TO BOOST KINDERGARTEN READINESS. VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE TRAINING, ONGOING SUPPORT, AND A LEVEL II BACKGROUND CHECK. ALL VPK STUDENTS IN PARTNER CLASSROOMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A READINGPAL WITH CAREGIVER PERMISSION.


FAMILY ENGAGEMENT:FAMILIES ARE A CHILD'S FIRST, BEST, AND MOST IMPORTANT TEACHER, SO THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WE CONNECT WITH FAMILIES TO SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS AT HOME. THIS INCLUDES PROVIDING QUALITY BOOKS TO BUILD HOME LIBRARIES, OFFERING READING DISCUSSION PROMPTS, PARTNERING WITH SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS, AND PARTICIPATING IN FAMILY NIGHTS AND OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS FOR FAMILIES.


KINDERGARTEN, HERE WE COME!LAUNCHED IN 2022, KINDERGARTEN, HERE WE COME! IS A WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS AND THEIR INCOMING KINDERGARTNERS TO PREPARE FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. THE GOAL FOR ATTENDEES IS TWO-FOLD: TO INTRODUCE PARENTS/CAREGIVERS TO THE CONCEPT OF SCHOOL READINESS WHILE EQUIPPING THEM TO BEST SUPPORT THEIR CHILD'S TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN, AND TO INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO A FORMAL EARLY EDUCATION SETTING THAT WILL HELP PREPARE THEM FOR SUCCESS ON DAY ONE OF KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND.
