PRESCHOOL PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM EACH CHILD TAKES HOME A BACKPACK OF BOOKS AND MATH MANIPULATIVES, SUCH AS AGE-APPROPRIATE BOOKS, COUNTING LINK CUBES, WRITING PADS, MARKERS, PAINTS, PLAY-DOH, AND COUNTING BEADS. INCLUDED IS AN ACTIVITY GUIDE FOR PARENTS TO ENSURE THAT THEY CAN USE THOSE MATERIALS TO HELP CHILDREN WITH THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF PRINT AND CONCEPT OF WORD (BEGINNING READING COMPONENTS), VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT, PROBLEM-SOLVING, AND EARLY MATH SKILLS. THESE MATERIALS ARE THEIRS FOR KEEPING. THESE BOOKS/MATERIALS WERE CHOSEN BECAUSE THEY NOT ONLY DEVELOP THE LITERACY AND NUMERACY SKILLS NECESSARY, BUT THEY CAN BE USED FOR MONTHS/YEARS AND PASSED DOWN TO YOUNGER SIBLINGS. IT IS A LIBRARY FOR THE HOME - ONE THEY WOULD OTHERWISE NOT HAVE BECAUSE OF LIMITED FAMILY RESOURCES. RECOGNIZING THE EXTRAORDINARY VALUE OF PRIDE IN HAVING A GRASP OF UNDERSTANDING OF READING AND MATH SKILLS, THIS IN TURN PROVIDES A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP IN THEIR EDUCATION. IT GIVES THEM THE SELF-CONFIDENCE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE CLASSROOM.
