TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THOSE AFFECTED BY SICKLE CELL DISEASE BY PROMOTING ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND EXCELLENT HEALTHCARE DELIVERY.

Part 3 - Line 4a

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: THIS PROGRAM SUPPORTS THE SCD COMMUNITY IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. WE PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH SCD TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL CONVENTION OF THE SICKLE CELL DISEASE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (SCD), EDUCATIONAL BOOKS AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. OVER 100 PERSONS BENEFITED FROM THIS PROGRAM.


EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH SCD AND/OR THEIR CAREGIVERS WHO ARE FACING FINANCIAL CHALLENGES. MOST OFTEN THESE NEEDS ARE FOR HOUSING, FOOD AND HELP WITH UTILITY BILLS. WE PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO 15 PEOPLE.


PATIENT TRANSPORTATION: OUR TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM PROVIDES RIDES TO PERSONS WITH SICKLE CELL DISEASE (SCD) TO THEIR CLINIC APPOINTMENTS. OUR CLINIC PARTNERS HAVE FOUND THAT TRANSPORTATION IS A MAJOR BARRIER TO PERSONS ACCESSING CONSISTENT HEALTH CARE AND THIS HAS A DEVASTATING IMPACT ON THE HEALTH OUTCOMES OF PERSONS WITH SCD. WE PROVIDED JUST OVER 1,300 RIDES IN TOTAL.


SICKLE CELL AWARENESS: THIS IS AN ONGOING PROGRAM TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT SCD. WE BELIEVE THAT RAISING AWARENESS IS THE KEY TO BRINGING ABOUT CHANGE TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF PERSONS LIVING WITH SCD. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDED EXPENDITURES ON HOSTING OUR ANNUAL EDUCATION DAY CONFERENCE. OVER 100 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE. WE ALSO UPDATE AND USE OUR WEBSITE AS A MECHANISM TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT SCD.
