TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF CHILDREN IN NEED BY PROVIDING NEW CLOTHING, SHOES, PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS, AND BACKPACKS TO KINDERGARTEN THROUGH TWELFTH GRADE STUDENTS IN NEED IN THE SAN BERNARDINO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.THE CHILDREN OF SAN BERNARDINO SERVED ARE FROM FAMILIES OF EVERY ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS AND RACIAL BACKGROUND WHO DO NOT HAVE DENTAL INSURANCE, AND ARE LOW INCOME.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL SERVES FAMILIES OF EVERY ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS AND RACIAL BACKGROUND WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR WELFARE, BUT WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY NEW CLOTHES. THEY ARE IDENTIFIED BY SAN BERNARDINO CITY SCHOOL PERSONNEL. OPERATION SCHOOL BELL, ADOPTED IN 1983, PROVIDES NEW CLOTHING, SHOES AND PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS TO CHILDREN IN NEED. APPROXIMATELY 200 CHILDREN EACH YEAR BENEFIT FROM OPERATION SCHOOL BELL.
THE DR. EARL R. CRANE CHILDREN'S DENTAL HEALTH CENTER SERVES UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED CHILDREN AGES OF 5 TO 25. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF SAN BERNARDINO (ALSB) SPONSORS THE DENTAL CENTER AS WELL AS THE ORAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTION IN THE SAN BERNARDINO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF THE DENTIST AND ALSB VOLUNTEERS THIS PROGRAM REACHES 4,700 STUDENTS. ALSB AND THE DENTAL CENTER ARE A PRESENCE AT MANY LOCAL HEALTH FAIRS THAT REACH 3,000 AREA RESIDENTS. THE DENTAL CARE ALSO FUNDED 6 PATIENTS FOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT.
