OPERATION SCHOOL BELL PROVIDES BACK TO SCHOOL ESSENTIALS INCLUDING NEW SCHOOL CLOTHING, UNDERWEAR, SOCKS, SHOES, JACKETS, AND BACKPACKS TO ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE FOUR WHITTIER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS WHO ARE IDENTIFIED BY THEIR SCHOOLS AS NEEDING ASSISTANCE.
OTHER PRIMARY PROGRAMS INCLUDE: OPERATION SUMMER READING IS A PROGRAM OF THE WHITTIER CITY LIBRARY THAT ENCOURAGES CHILDREN TO EMBRACE READING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. THE CHAPTER PROVIDES VOLUNTEER AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE EVENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS EFFORT. WEE WARDROBE PROVIDES LAYETTES FOR NEWBORNS AT OUR LOCAL HOSPITAL WHOSE MOTHERS ARE UNPREPARED AND HAVE NO CLOTHING OR DIAPERS FOR THE INFANT; WE ALSO PROVIDE A LAYETTE FOR INFANTS WHO ARE BEING ADOPTED.
DENTAL CARE PROVIDES DENTAL SERVICES TO FAMILIES WITHOUT DENTAL INSURANCE, IN THE WHITTIER AREA, WHO ARE IDENTIFIED BY THEIR SCHOOLS AS REQUIRING DENTAL CARE. FAMILIES PAY A $10.00 CO-PAY TO THE CHAPTER, WHICH REIMBURSES LOCAL DENTISTS, AT A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED RATE, FOR THEIR SERVICES.
