OVER 75% OF EXPENSES ARE RETURNED TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AS AID TO CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND SENIORS. THIS INCLUDES DENTAL CARE, SCHOOL CLOTHING AND SUPPLIES, TEDDY BEARS FOR TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN, MEALS AND ENTERTAINMENT FOR VISUALLY HANDICAPPED SENIORS,ETC.

FRANCIS J. JOHNSON DENTAL CENTER WAS OPEN THIS YEAR WITH MINOR RESTRICTIONS. THE CENTER CONTINUED WORKING WITH THE CALIFORNIA DENTAL ASSOCIATION AND THE CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL (CDC) TO INSURE COVID SAFETY FOR OUR PATIENTS. THE DENTAL CENTER WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE 589 CHILDREN WITH LOW-COST OR NO-COST DENTAL SERVICE. THE CENTER CURRENTLY HAS 28 ORTHODONTIA PATIENTS PARTICIPATING IN OUR REDUCED FEE ORTHODONTIC SERVICES. THE REDUCED FEE ORTHODONTIC SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY TWO ORTHODONTISTS IN THE AREA ALONG WITH SHARED EXPENSES FROM OUR ORGANIZATION.THE DENTAL CENTER IS FUNDED BY RESTRICTED GIFTS, GRANTS, SPECIAL GIFTS, AND OTHER CHAPTER FUNDS. SOME EXPENSES ARE REIMBURSED BY DENTI-CAL.
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL (OSB) OPENED THIS YEAR AFTER COVID RESTRICTIONS WERE LIFTED. WE HELD 13 SHOPPING EVENTS WITH 44 PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS RESULTING IN CLOTHING 1,441 NEEDY STUDENTS. OSB SPENT $170,000 ON THE 13 EVENTS. ADDITIONALLY, OSB CLEARED ITS CLOTHING INVENTORY OF $14,000 BY DONATING THESE CLOTHES TO PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS FOR THEIR EMERGENCY CLOSET. ASSISTEENS HANDED OUT GROOMING KITS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR THE OSB EVENTS.
COMMUNITY AID INCLUDES OUR LAYETTE PROGRAM WHICH WAS STILL ON HOLD DUE TO THE SHUTDOWN OF THE HOSPITAL PRENATAL PROGRAM AT UCLA. COMMUNITY AID DID DELIVER DIAPER BAGS TO HARBOR UCLA, A FOOD AND TOY DRIVE WAS HELD FOR HARBOR INTERFAITH AND $400 OF GOODS WERE DELIVERED IN DECEMBER. COMMUNITY AID CONTINUED TO PROVIDE CLEANING SUPPLIES FOR CASA DE LOS ANGELITOS, AND SNACKS FOR THE UCLA MEDICAL CRISIS CENTER.
