COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORING PROGRAM. IN THIS PROGRAM, CAREFULLY SCREENED AND TRAINED ADULTS MENTOR AT-RISK CHILDREN AGES 6-18 THESE BIGS GET TOGETHER WITH THEIR LITTLES 3 TO 4 TIMES A MONTH FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR THE FOCUS IS NOT ON SPENDING MONEY, BUT SIMPLY ON SPENDING TIME WITH A CHILD OUR BIGS DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP AND BECOME A TRUSTED FRIEND WITH THEIR LITTLES THROUGH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS PLAYING SPORTS, PLANTING A GARDEN, MAKING A MEAL, GOING TO THE MOVIES, OR EXPLORING THE COMMUNITY TO NAME A FEW MENTORING AND SUPPORT PROVIDED TO 74 MATCHES SITE-BASED MENTORING PROGRAMIN THIS PROGRAM, CAREFULLY SCREENED AND TRAINED ADULTS MENTOR AT-RISK ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AT THE CHILD'S SCHOOL OR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR ONE HOUR A WEEK ALL ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE AT THE SCHOOL OR PROGRAM SITE DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR THE MATCHED BIG AND LITTLE PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS RECREATION, ARTS & CRAFTS, READING, AND LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT MENTORING PROVIDED TO 30 MATCHES LAST YEAR IN NEVADA COUNTY AND NORTH LAKE TAHOE AREA
