IN SPRING OF 2023 WE LAUNCHED THE WORLD PREMIERE OF BECOMING ROBIN HOOD, A NEW WORK BY LOCAL ARTISTS LAURA MARLIN AND PHIL GORMAN, WITH ENORMOUS SUCCESS. WE UPHELD OUR COMMITMENT TO MAKING LIVE THEATER ACCESSIBLE TO PATRONS WHO WOULD BE OTHERWISE UNABLE OR UNLIKELY TO ATTEND. WE PRIORITIZED OUTREACH TO ALL BERKELEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AND MANY LOCAL YOUTH ARTS ORGANIZATIONS, OFFERING DISCOUNTS FOR STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND TEACHERS. THE FREE PUBLIC SCHOOL RIFFS SHOW CHOIR PROGRAM WAS REMOUNTED THIS YEAR, AT TITLE-1 OAKLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL CLAREMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL. ADDITIONALLY, OUR TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (TRECS) IS AGAIN OPERATING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EMERSON ELEMENTARY (BUSD), AND THIS YEAR PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS WHO COULD NOT OTHERWISE ACCESS MUSICAL THEATER ARTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. WE WELCOMED NEW YOUTH AS STUDENTS AND PATRONS, WITH THE INTENTION OF SERVING THOSE FROM MARGINALIZED BACKGROUNDS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) AND THE PACIFIC CENTER FOR HUMAN GROWTH.
