CFEE HOSTS FOUR ANNUAL CONFERENCES AS WELL AS REGULAR ONLINE SEMINARS IN A VARIETY OF TOPICS WITHIN OUR ISSUE AREAS. KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN OUR CONFERENCES DURING 2021 INCLUDED :1. THE GROWING USES FOR HYDROGEN AND THE CONTINUING NEED FOR ENERGY RELIABILITY.2. THE COMPLEXITY OF OUR DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND NEED FOR RELIABLE SUPPLY CHAINS TO BUILD OUT THE DIGITAL BACKBONE TO SOLVE THE LAST MILE AND MISSING MIDDLE.3. UNDERSTANDING CALIFORNIA'S LONG ROAD TO FULL BUILD OUT OF ITS ELECTRIC CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE AND PHASE IN OF THE DRAMATIC ZEV MANDATES THAT ARE NOW EMBODIED IN REGULATION.4. THE IMPORTANCE TO ACCELERATE BUILDING OUT THE STATE'S WIRED AND WIRELESS NETWORKS, PARTICULARLY IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.5. BUILDING RESILIENCY INTO THE ENVIRONMENT TO PROTECT FROM CATASTROPHIC WILDFIRES AND PROVIDE FOR WATER QUALITY.
CFEE CONDUCTED THREE STUDY TRAVEL PROJECTS IN 2021. THE PROJECTS FACILITATE HANDS ON LEARNING IN OUR KEY ISSUE AREAS. CFEE CONDUCTED ONE MULTI-DAY BUS TOUR THROUGH CALIFORNIA TO LEARN ABOUT CURRENT EFFORTS AND THE NEEDS OF OUR STATE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:1. OUR DIVERSE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE AND THE NEED FOR MORE STORAGE AND TO DEVELOP BETTER RECYCLING SYSTEMS.2. OUR URGENT NEED TO DEAL WITH FOREST FIRES AND THEIR RAPID SPREAD.3. THE CHALLENGES OUR STATE FACES IN DIVERSIFYING OUR WATER SYSTEM AND THE DIRE NEED TO DISTRIBUTE WATER EQUITABLY BETWEEN AGRICULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL NEEDS.4. THE EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES TO CAPTURE METHANE ON FARMS AND DAIRIES AND MAKE IT PART OF OUR FUELS.5. THE CONTINUUING WORK OF KEY ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS ACTING WITH GOVERNMENT IN PROVIDING LANDS FOR HABITAT RESTORATION AND PERMANENT USE.THE INTERNATIONAL STUDY TRAVEL PROJECT TO CANADA FOCUSED ON THEIR TRAILBLAZING SUCCESSES IN PURSUING CIRCULAR ECONOMY BENEFITS IN REUSING METALS AND PROPERLY DISPOSING OF MEDICAL WASTE AND EXPIRED PHARMACEUTICALS. OUR SECOND TRIP BROUGHT US TO PORTUGAL TO SEE FIRSTHAND THE CHALLENGES OF BUILDING THE SUPPLY AND CONSTRUCTION CHAINS NEEDED FOR FLOATING OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES AS CALIFORNIA BEGINS PURSUING THIS SAME TECHNOLOGY.
