Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
FARMLAND PRESERVATION PROGRAM: THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE TRUST IS TO SECURE, PRESERVE, AND STEWARD THREATENED FARMLAND IN WASHINGTON. A PRIMARY METHOD FOR THE TRUST TO PROTECT IRREPLACEABLE AGRICULTURAL LAND AND PRESERVE LOCAL FARMING COMMUNITIES IS BY PURCHASE OF AGRICULTURAL CONSERVATION EASEMENTS. THESE REMOVE DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS AND GUARANTEE THE LAND WILL BE FARMLAND FOREVER. ANOTHER PRIMARY METHOD FOR THE TRUST IS TO ACQUIRE THREATENED FARMLAND AND LEASE IT TO A FARMER.
FARMLAND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM: THE GOAL OF THE FARMLAND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP COLLABORATIVE & SCIENTIFICALLY-RELEVANT STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR EACH OF THE TRUST'S PROPERTIES. ANNUAL MONITORING WILL ENSURE THE LAND IS USED AS PRESCRIBED IN THE CONSERVATION EASEMENT AND THAT IT IS BEING ACTIVELY FARMED. THE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM ALSO ADMINISTERS AN INTERNAL GRANT PROGRAM, ADVANCING FARM SUSTAINABILITY, WHICH PROVIDES GRANT DOLLARS TO HELP GROWERS INCORPORATE SUSTAINABLE FARMING PRACTICES INTO THEIR PRODUCTION METHODS.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM: A KEY ELEMENT IN FULFILLING THE MISSION OF THE TRUST IS ENGAGING THE PUBLIC IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: 1) THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPPORTING LOCAL, SUSTAINABLE FARMERS; 2) THE NECESSITY TO PRESERVE THE DECREASING SUPPLY OF PRODUCTIVE REGIONAL FARMLAND; AND 3) THE WILDLIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF AGRICULTURAL LAND STEWARDSHIP. THE TRUST ACHIEVES THESE GOALS THROUGH ANNUAL FARM TOURS AND EVENTS, PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS, AND OUTREACH AT EDUCATIONAL FAIRS AND EVENTS.
FARM TO FARMER, THROUGH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON MATCHING, COACHING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, ENABLES NEW AND EXPANDING FARMERS TO CONNECT WITH THE LAND OPPORTUNITIES THEY NEED TO GROW THEIR BUSINESSES. AT THE SAME TIME, IT HELPS RETIRING FARMERS TRANSFER THEIR LAND TO THE NEXT GENERATION.
