SKAGIT SYMPHONY'S MISSION IS TO INSPIRE AND TRANSFORM OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH THE POWER OF MUSIC.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
CONCERT SEASON: UNABLE TO PREPARE AND PERFORM LIVE CONCERTS IN 2020-21 DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, SKAGIT SYMPHONY PIVOTED TO OFFER VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES IN ORDER TO CONTINUE FULFILLING ITS MISSION. WE PRESENTED SIX VIDEO PROGRAMS OF ENGAGING MUSIC TO OUR COMMUNITY AT NO COST. OUR VIDEO PRODUCTIONS RANGED FROM SOLO PERFORMANCES, TO DIGITALLY COMPOSED "ZOOM-STYLE" ENSEMBLES FROM INDIVIDUAL VIDEO RECORDINGS, TO SMALL ENSEMBLES OF DISTANCED MUSICIANS -INCLUDING A BRASS ENSEMBLE PLAYING SPREAD APART AT AN INDOOR TENNIS COURT! OUR GOAL WAS TO OFFER UPLIFTING MUSIC TO THE COMMUNITY DURING THE CHALLENGING TIMES OF THE PANDEMIC, WHILE KEEPING OUR MUSICIANS ENGAGED. WE ARE PROUD THAT WE AVOIDED "GOING DARK". WE SURVIVED-AND EVEN THRIVED-THANKS TO THE RESILIENCE AND CREATIVITY OF OUR STAFF, THE WILLINGNESS OF OUR VOLUNTEER MUSICIANS TO CONTINUALLY ADAPT TO CHANGING RESTRICTIONS, AND THE GENEROSITY AND LOYALTY OF OUR PATRONS AND SPONSORS THAT KEPT US AFLOAT FINANCIALLY DURING THIS TIME.
EDUCATION PROGRAM: ALTHOUGH THE PANDEMIC PREVENTED US FROM PRODUCING OUR POPULAR SIGNATURE SCHOOL AND FAMILY CONCERT SERIES, WE FOCUSED ON OTHER WAYS TO CONTINUE BRINGING MUSIC EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR COMMUNITY. OUR ONLINE OFFERINGS INCLUDED ENGAGING WESTERN MUSIC HISTORY PRESENTATIONS BY OUR MUSIC DIRECTOR VIA ZOOM, A "MEET THE ORCHESTRA" VIDEO SERIES FEATURING OUR MUSICIANS THAT INTRODUCES THE INSTRUMENTS AND MUSIC OF THE ORCHESTRA, AND THE LAUNCH OF "ADVENTURES WITH BEETHOVEN", AN ONLINE SERIES THAT PAINTS A FASCINATING PICTURE OF BEETHOVEN'S LIFE AND TIMES.
