SJO IS THE PRODUCING ORGANIZATION FOR THE SEATTLE REPERTORY JAZZ ORCHESTRA, A 17 PIECE ENSEMBLE OF THE MOST PROMINENT JAZZ MUSICIANS IN THE SEATTLE AREA. WE ALSO WORK TO EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION TO APPRECIATE AND PERFORM THIS UNIQUELY AMERICAN ART FORM.

SUBSCRIPTION CONCERT SERIES: SRJO'S 2020-2021 SEASON WAS SEVERELY IMPACTED BY COVID-19, BUT WE ADJUSTED QUICKLY AND PRODUCED THE FOLLOWING SHOWS: 1) "MILES DAVIS' BIRTH OF THE COOL", NOV 7, 2020 (ONLINE LIVE-STREAM), 2) "SRJO PLAYS SRJO" FEATURING NEW PIECES COMPOSED BY SRJO PLAYERS DURING THE PANDEMIC ISOLATION, APRIL 18, 2021 (ONLINE LIVE-STREAM), AND 3) "CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE WITH SRJO", FEATURING EIGHT-TIME GRAMMY WINNING BASSIST CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, JUNE 20, 2021 (WITH LIMITED IN-PERSON AUDIENCE AND LIVE-STREAM). OUR FEBRUARY CONCERT WITH NATIONALLY KNOWN GUEST SAXOPHONIST JOSHUA REDMAN HAD TO BE POSTPONED TO AUGUST 2021 DUE TO COVID CONSIDERATIONS.
EDUCATION: SRJO IS COMMITTED TO PASSING THE PASSION FOR JAZZ ON TO A NEW GENERATION AND HAS TWO MAIN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE JAZZ SCHOLARS PROGRAM PROVIDES FREE MUSIC INSTRUCTION FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENTS IN SE AND SW SEATTLE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOL BAND AND ORCHESTRA TEACHERS TO HELP STRENGTHEN EXISTING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAMS. DURING THIS PANDEMIC YEAR, OUR DEDICATED TEAM OF COACHES SWITCHED TO PROVIDING THEIR LESSONS ONLINE, IN BOTH JAZZ AND TRADITIONAL STYLES TO APPROXIMATELY 25 INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS. OUR JAZZ4KIDS PROGRAM OF FREE CONCERTS GEARED TOWARDS CHILDREN AND YOUTH WAS PAUSED BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC.
OUTSIDE CONCERTS AND CDS: SRJO IS IN DEMAND FOR A NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES. WE LIVE-STREAMED "THE BEST OF MONK AND MILES" JULY 20, 2020. WE ALSO PRESENTED VIA LIVE-STREAM THE 32ND ANNUAL DUKE ELLINGTON SACRED CONCERT WITH THE NORTHWEST CHAMBER CHORUS. OTHER NOTABLE GIGS INCLUDED COMBINED IN-PERSON AND LIVE-STREAMED CONCERTS AT THE YAKIMA SEASONS PERFORMANCE HALL OCTOBER 19, 2020 AND FEBRUARY 28, 2021 AND A LIVE-STREAMED "TRIBUTE TO LOUIS ARMSTRONG" APRIL 2, 2021 FOR THE SEATTLE SYMPHONY.
