WE WORK TO ENSURE CALIFORNIA'S ECE SYSTEM IS CULTURALLY AFFIRMING FOR BLACK CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND EARLY EDUCATORS, AND THAT ECE POLICIES AND RESOURCE ALLOCATION ARE ALIGNED TO MATCH OUR VISION.

ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING: AFTER OBTAINING OUR 501C3 STATUS, WE FOCUSED ON BUILDING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE AND CAPACITY INCLUDING: -MEET AND GREETS WITH ORGANIZATIONS WITH SIMILAR MISSIONS THAT COULD POTENTIALLY PARTNER WITH US -RELATIONSHIP BUILDING WITH POTENTIAL FUNDERS -APPLYING TO CONFERENCES TO PRESENT WORKSHOPS FUNDRAISING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
AN IMPORTANT FOCUS OF BLACKECE IS TO ADVOCATE FOR CALIFORNIA'S YOUNGEST BLACK CHILDREN, THEIR FAMILIES AND BLACK CHILD CARE PROVIDERS. WE SUBMITTED RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE REPARATIONS TASK FORCE; MET WITH THE OFFICES OF STATE LEGISLATORS TO INTRODUCE OUR ORGANIZATION; 2 CO-FOUNDERS WERE SELECTED TO SERVE ON THE STATE QUALITY AND MIXED DELIVERY WORK GROUP; PRESENTED A WEBINAR FOR THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
CHILD CARE PROVIDER SUPPORT: WE HOSTED A VIRTUAL EVENT OF APPRECIATION FOR 65 BLACK CHILD CARE PROVIDERS DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH. PROVIDERS RECEIVED ITEMS TO USE DURING AND AFTER THE EVENT TO PROMOTE THEIR SELF-CARE. FROM THIS EVENT, WE RECRUITED PROVIDERS TO ATTEND A RALLY IN SACRAMENTO PROMOTING HIGHER PAY FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS, IN LINE WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL OF ELIMINATING THE RACIAL WAGE GAP. OF THE 65 PROVIDERS, WE HAVE RECRUITED 35 PROVIDERS COMMITTED TO BUILDING A CAMPAIGN TO ELIMINATE THE RACIAL WAGE GAP.
