SEEDBANK: WE CONTINUED BUILDING OUR GROUNDS, INCLUDING COMPLETION OF OFFICE AND LAB SPACE, CONTINUED BUILDING RECIRCULATING AQUACULTURE SYSTEM (RAS), WHILE HIRING COLLECTION CURATOR, AND UTILIZING THE PILOT AQUACULTURE SYSTEM OF OUR PARTNER, USC-ALTASEA SEAWEED LAB. WE ALSO STARTED WORKING WITH THE CA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE TO COMPLY WITH THE STATE REGULATIONS.


OUTREACH AND EDUCATION: TO DEVELOP A CURRICULUM AND TEACH THROUGH AN AQUACULTURE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM. AN 8 WEEKS CLASS DESIGNED FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN AQUACULTURE, MARINE SCIENCE AND MARINE BIOLOGY. THE CLASS CONTAINED BOTH THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL COMPONENTS. OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM IS FOCUSED ON SPREADING GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE OCEAN ECOLOGY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SEAWEED AS A KEY ELEMENT OF HABITAT FOR NUMEROUS SPECIES, AS FEED AND FOOD, SOURCE OF ENERGY, AND OTHER USES.
