Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

OUR MISSION IS TO SUPPORT CALIFORNIA FARMERS AND COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING FARMERS MARKETS FOR OUR DIVERSE BAY AREA NEIGHBORHOODS. WE DO THIS BY OPERATING CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKETS IN SIX BAY AREA COUNTIES. THESE FARMERS MARKETS PROVIDE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR OVER 200 CALIFORNIA FARMERS AND OVER 180 OTHER CALIFORNIA SMALL BUSINESSES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

PACIFIC COAST FARMERS' MARKET ASSOCIATION (PCFMA) OPERATES CERTIFIED FARMERS' MARKETS IN MORE THAN 30 MARKETS DIRECTLY TO CONSUMERS. THESE MARKETPLACES ALLOW CALIFORNIA FARMS TO REMAIN VIABLE WHILE PROVIDING HEALTHY, FARM-FRESH FOODS TO BAY AREA COMMUNITIES.

PCFMA IS A LEADER IN THE STATEWIDE MARKET MATCH PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FINANCIAL INCENTIVES TO THOSE ENROLLED IN THE CALFRESH FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, ALLOWING THEM TO INCREASE THEIR PURCHASE OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES WHEN USING THEIR CALFRESH BENEFITS AT A PCFMA FARMERS' MARKET. IN 2022, PCFMA'S MARKET MATCH PROGRAM SERVED OVER 15,200 CALFRESH CUSTOMERS AND DISTRIBUTED OVER $1,088,000 IN INCENTIVES FOR FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TO CALFRESH CUSTOMERS, WHO PURCHASED $1,374,000 OF FARMERS' MARKET FOOD WITH THEIR CALFRESH BENEFITS. COMBINED, THIS IS OVER $2.4 MILLION OF FRESH FOOD SOLD TO LOW INCOME CUSTOMERS AT PCFMA'S FARMERS' MARKETS.

PCFMA ACCEPTS THE WIC FARMERS' MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM VOUCHERS AT ALL FARMERS' MARKETS. THESE VOUCHERS HELP LOW INCOME FAMILIES TO AFFORD LOCALLY-GROWN FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE, PCFMA MATCHED THE VALUE OF THESE BENEFITS, HELPING FAMILIES PURCHASE OVER $580,406 OF FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FROM CALIFORNIA FARMERS.
