THE ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS THE UNDERFUNDED AND UNFUNDED NEEDS OF THE WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVOLVING TRAINING, EQUIPPING AND SUPPLYING THE NEEDS OF THE AGENCY IN CARRYING OUT ITS LAW ENFORCEMENT MISSIONS AS WELL AS SPRINKLING FUNDS TO LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES IN CARRYING OUT ITS LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

THE SHOP WITH A SHERIFF PROGRAM IS AN ANNUAL PROGRAM THAT IS FUNDED BY A COMBINATION OF MEMBER DUES AND DONATIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM ASSISTS INDIGENT CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES IN PURCHASING CLOTHING, SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND GIFTS FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. PARTICIPANTS ARE ELECTED BY SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES WHO ARE PAIRED WITH AGENCY EMPLOYEES AND MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION IN SHOPPING ON THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT.


THE ASSOCIATION AND WASHOE COUNTY PARTNERS IN SENDING COMMISSIONED OFFICERS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE SOUTHERN POLICE INSTITUTE. WASHOE COUNTY WILL PAY THE DEPUTIES' WAGES AND BENEFITS AND THE ASSOCIATION WILL PAY FOR TUITION, BOOKS, LODGING, TRAVEL AND PER DIEM EXPENSES OF THE OFFICERS. THE INSTITUTE TEACHING THE LATEST THEORY AND TECHNIQUES FOR DETECTING, ARRESTING AND PROSECUTING CRIMINAL CONDUCT. THE ATTENDEES TEACH THE OTHER COMMISSIONED OFFICERS OF THE AGENCY IN REGARD TO WHAT THEY LEARNED IN THE PROGRAM WHEN THEY RETURN.


THE ASSOCIATION PURCHASES EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING COURSES FOR VARIOUS PROGRAMS OF THE WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MOUNTED HORSE, K-9,AND SWAT. IN THE YEAR ENDED 2/28/22, $163,238 WAS SPENT ON THE PURCHASE POLICE SURVEILANCE TRAILERS, $46,116 WAS SPENT FOR HOSTAGE EQUIPMENT, $20,150 WAS SPENT ON THE PURCHASE OF SWAT ROBOTS, $4,588 WAS SPENT ON THE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT,FOR MOUNTED HORSE UNITS, AND $1,087 ON VARIOUS SMALL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES.
