THE YWCA IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN, AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
WOMEN'S WELLNESS, EMPOWERMENT AND LEADERSHIP CENTER (WWELC): WWELC PROVIDES PROGRAMMING TO PROMOTE WOMEN'S WELLNESS THROUGH PROGRAMS INCLUDING LATINA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, YOUR SISTER'S CLOSET/PROJECT PERIOD, LAS COMADRITAS, AND THE WOMEN'S COUNSELING NETWORK.
TEEN COURT: PIMA COUNTY TEEN COURT IS A DIVERSION PROGRAM FOR MINORS THAT HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AND HAVE ADMITTED GUILT TO THEIR CRIME. THESE TEENS CHOOSE TO BE SENTENCED BY A JURY OF THEIR PEERS INSTEAD OF GOING THROUGH THE JUVENILE JUSTICE COURT SYSTEM. ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE TEENS, EXCEPT FOR THE JUDGE.
SOMOS UNO FUNDS: THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVED FEDERAL FUNDING THROUGH THE SOMOS UNO RESILIENCY FUND. THESE FUNDS ARE USED TO SUPPORT WORKERS, FAMILIES AND CHILDREN, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, AND SMALL BUSINESSES IN TUCSON, ARIZONA. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF TUCSON, THE WOMEN'S FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA, AND THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA, YWCA OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA WILL DISTRIBUTE GRANTS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AND A LOSS OF INCOME DUE TO THE PANDEMIC CAUSED BY COVID-19.
LATINA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE ENGINEERS A PATHWAY TO ECONOMIC SUCCESS AND SELF-DETERMINATION FOR IMMIGRANT & REFUGEE WOMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE WOMEN'S COUNSELING NETWORK (WCN) MAKES LONG-TERM PERSONAL COUNSELING ACCESSIBLE TO EVERY WOMAN, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.
