OUR MISSION IS TO MOBILIZE TECH WORKERS AND COMPANIES TO ADVANCE STRUCTURAL CHANGE THAT ADDRESSES ECONOMIC INEQUITY AT ITS ROOTS, FOCUSING ON HOUSING AND WORKFORCE & LABOR

IN 2020, TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE HELD MORE THAN 40 VIRTUAL EVENTS AND 4500 EVENT PARTICIPANTS, VOLUNTEERS BANKDED 4,568 CALLS IN SUPPORT OF THE HISTORIC MEASURE PROPOSITION 15 AND COLLECTED 1,386 SIGNATURES ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT. THE ORGANIZATION RESPONDED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY PARTNERING WITH TECHEXCHANGE TO GET LAPTOPS TO STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES, ADVOCATED FOR PAID SICK LEAVE FOR ALL WORKERS IN SAN JOSE AND FOUGHT FOR POLICIES TO ADDRESS THE EXISTING AFFORDABILITY CRISIS. FOLLOWING THE PASSAGE OF THE TENANT PROTECTION ACT OF 2019, TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE CREATED TENANTPROTECTIONS.ORG, A TOOL FOR CALIFORNIA RENTERS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR NEW RIGHTS AND GET LEGAL SUPPORT IN THE FACE OF UNLAWFUL EVICTIONS AND RENT INCREASES. THIS WAS BUILT IN PARTNERSHIP AND ACCE AND CODE FOR AMERICA'S SAN FRANCISCO BRIGADE, BECOMING OUR FIRST MAJOR PROJECT IN POLICY IMPLEMNTATION. TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE CREATED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND EDUCATED MORE THAN 5,000 VOTERS WTH ELECTION RESOURCES, WITH MORE THAN 3,000 PEOPLE READING ITS PROPOSITION 22 ARTICLE. WE ALSO ADVISED TECH COMPANIES TO TAKE POSITIONS ON PROGRESSIVE LEGISLATION, WITH POSTMATES AND SALESFORCE ENDORSING PROPOSITION 15 POSTMATES AND PANTHEON ENDORSING AB 1436, RENTER AND MORTGAGE MORATORIUM IN THE FACE OF COVID-19.


WE LAUNCHED THREE MAJOR INITIATIVES TO TACKLE TECHS ROLE IN RISING INEQUALITY, INVESTIGATING CORNERS OF THE INDUSTRY PREVIOUSLY UNEXAMINED. TO ADDRESS THE GROWING RACIAL WEALTH GAP, WE WORKED WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO DEVELOP A GUIDE FOR TECH COMPANIES TO HIRE PEOPLE RETURNING FROM INCARCERATION. TO UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF TECH COMPANIES IN THE HOUSING SYSTEMAND THE ROLE THEY MAY PLAY IN INCREASING SEGREGATIONWE LAUNCHED THE TECH, BIAS AND HOUSING INITIATIVE. TO UNCOVER THE TRUTH OF OCCUPATIONAL SEGREGATION IN TECH, WE RELEASED FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND RESEARCH INTO THE TWO-TIERED EMPLOYMENT SYSTEM IN THE TECH INDUSTRY. WE ALSO CREATED TENANTPROTECTIONS.ORG AFTER THE PASSAGE OF TENANT PROTECTION ACT OF 2019: A TOOL TO HELP CALIFORNIA RENTERS UNDERSTAND THEIR RIGHTS AND GET LEGAL SUPPORT WHEN FACED WITH UNLAWFUL EVICTION AND RENT INCREASE.


TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE HELD MORE THAN 40 VIRTUAL EVENTS WITH 4500 EVENT PARTICIPANTS DISCUSSING THE MYRIAD OF WAYS THE TECH SECTOR CAN SUPPORT SOLUTIONS TO INEQUITY AND WORK TO REMOVE SYSTEMIC BARRIERS TO ECONOMIC MOBILITY.


TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE CREATED EDUCATION MATERIALS TO PROVIDE MORE THAN 5000 VOTERS WITH EDUCATIONATIONAL RESOURCES, INCLUDING 3000 READERS OF AN ARTICLE ABOUT PROPOSITION 22. ADDITIONALLY, TECH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE ADVISED TECH COMPANIES ON EQUITABLE APPROACHES TO SYSTEMIC BIAS IN THE HOUSING AND LABOR SPACE, INCLUDING ON ISSUES RELATED TO THE COVID19 CRISIS.
