THE VMI, INC IS A MATHEMATICS EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO IMPROVING MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNING THROUGH A VARIETY OF INITIATIVES, INCLUDING (A) THE VMI MASTERS PROGRAM - A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM DEDICATED TO BUILDING SYSTEMIC CAPACITY BY TRAINING CURRENT AND ASPIRING K-8 MATHEMATICS TEACHER LEADERS; (B) OUTREACH AND CONTRIBUTION TO STATEWIDE INITIATIVES IN VERMONT; (C) TARGETED MATHEMATICS EDUCATION SUPPORT TO SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS; (D) A VARIETY OF RECERTIFICATION COURSES DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR MATHEMATICS TEACHERS. THE VMI, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY (SNHU): (1) GRADUATED 36 STUDENTS FROM THE MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM AND ENROLLED 16 EDUCATORS INTO ITS NEWEST MASTER'S DEGREE COHORT WHICH STARTED JULY 11, 2021. DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD, THE 'NEW' COHORT COMPLETED 12 OF THE 36 CREDITS NECESSARY TO RECEIVE THEIR MASTER'S DEGREE THROUGH SNHU. THIS COHORT JOINED A COHORT OF 20 EDUCATORS IN THEIR SECOND YEAR OF THE PROGRAM; AND, THE 36 EDUCATORS IN THEIR FINAL YEAR OF THE THREE YEAR, 36-CREDIT PROGRAM. INTERRUPTIONS CAUSED BY THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC CONTINUED, WITH REMOTE INSTRUCTION EXTENDED THROUGH FALL OF 2021. (2) ENROLLED 21 PARTICIPANTS INTO ITS INAUGURAL COHORT OF THE VMI POST-MASTER'S CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATE STUDY, A 15-CREDIT, FIVE-COURSE SEQUENCE SUPPORTING MATHEMATICS LEADERS AND THOSE ASPIRING TO MATHEMATICS EDUCATION LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.
THE VMI OFFERED TWO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, NON-DEGREE GRANTING COURSES FOR EDUCATORS: MATHEMATICAL COHERENCE IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADES AND MATHEMATICS AS A SECOND LANGUAGE. THE MATHEMATICAL COHERENCE CLASS ENROLLED 20 PARTICIPANTS (VT EDUCATORS) IN SOUTHERN VT. THE MSL COURSE WAS HELD AS PART OF ONE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSERVICE OFFERINGS AND ENROLLED 17 STUDENTS. BOTH OFFERINGS WERE HELD WITH A CREDIT OR NO CREDIT OPTION. FOR COURSE CREDIT, VMI WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHERN NH UNIVERSITY.
THE VMI PROVIDED PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING SERVICES IN SUPPORT OF MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNING AT THE MIDDLE LEVEL IN EWSD (SPECIFICALLY THE ADL AND EMS SCHOOLS).
