Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
THE ORGANIZATION HELD WORKSHOPS WHEREBY THE INTERNS CREATED A MUSIC PLAY ("PETER PAN AND THE LOST GIRL") IN THE SPRING AND IN THE FALL "WONDERS IN WONDERLAND" (A PARODY OF "ALICE IN WONDERLAND). THE WORKSHOPS INCLUDED THE CHILDREN MAKING THE SCENERY AND THE PROPS AND THE 16 YEAR OLD INTERNS COMPOSED BOTH THE SCRIPTS AND THE MUSIC TO "WONDERS IN WONDERLAND". IN OUR LEADERSHIP MENTORSHIP PROGRAM THE OLDER CHILDREN LEARNED HOW TO DIRECT AND TEACH THE SMALLER CHILDREN HOW TO READ SCRIPT LINES AND ACT AS WELL AS SINGING SONGS. IN THE SUMMER THEY PERFORMED THE MUSICAL "OLIVER" WHERE THEY LEARNED HOW TO WORK TOGETHER, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, SPEAK IN A BRITISH ACCENT, AND TAKE STAGE DIRECTIONS FOR MOVEMENT ON THE STAGE. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE INDIVIDUAL LESSONS OF SINGING, ACTING, VIOLIN, VOICE AND ARTS AND CRAFTS. THE CHILDREN ALSO WENT TO THE NORTHERN NEVADA VETERANS HOME TO ENTERTAIN THE RESIDENT VETERANS. SOME OF THE STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM COMPETITION FOR THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS. ONE OF OUR STUDENTS ACTUALLY WON THE COMPETITION AND WILL BE HEADING TO NATIONALS. ANOTHER STUDENT WHO HAD LEARNED ARTICULATION AND ELOCUTION WON THE FCCLA SPEECH CONTEST FOR THE STATE OF NEVADA AND WILL BE HEADING TO NATIONALS IN JUNE. WE HAD A NEW STUDENT WITH CEREBRAL PALSY (AGE 5) WHO WE INTEGRATED IN THE SHOW "OLIVER" BY HAVING THE CHOREOGRAPHER HAVE THE DANCERS IN "WHO WILL BUY" DANCE AROUND HER WHEEL CHAIR. THE CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE THEIR VOICES CLEARLY AND TO WORK WELL WITH OTHERS.
