TO REDUCE AND PREVENT YOUTH AND ADULT SUBSTANCE ABUSE WITHIN UNICOI COUNTY, BY COLLABORATING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT EFFECTIVE INTERVENTION STRATEGIES.

OUR MEMBERSHIP HAS INCREASED 10% SINCE 2022. WE NOW HAVE OVER 60 MEMBERS. OUR YOUTH COALITION CONTINUES TO GROW WITH STUDENTS FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATING IN EVENTS, VOLUNTEERING, AND EDUCATING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MISUSE. THE COALITION HAS DISTRIBUTED OVER 7,000 MEDICATION STORAGE LOCKBOXES INTO THE COMMUNITY SINCE 2021. WE HAVE THREE PERMANENT LOCK BOX STORAGE LOCATIONS AT OUR THREE POLICE STATIONS AND OUR POLICE DEPARTMENTS DISTRIBUTE MEDICATION LOCKBOXES INTO OUR COMMUNITY. OUR HOPE MENTORING PROGRAM HAS 20 HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH INVOLVED IN PEER TO PEER MENTORING. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDE HIGH SCHOOL LEADERS AS MENTORS TO AT-RISK MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH. THE STUDENTS MEET TWICE A WEEK DURING SCHOOL HOURS. THE PROGRAM HELPS YOUTH IN COPING SKILLS, BUILDING RESILIENCY, PEER PRESSURES, MENTAL HEALTH AND LIVING FREE FROM DRUGS. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY OUR TEACHERS AND SCHOOL BOARD. OUR FOCUS GROUPS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE REACHING THE AT-RISK AND NON-RISK POPULATIONS. WE HAVE FOCUS GROUPS EVERY 9 WEEKS WITH STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE EDUCATED ON THE DANGERS OF VAPING, MARIJUANA, UNDERAGE DRINKING, PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS, AND ON MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION ISSUES. WE HAVE OVER 10 PARTNERS THAT CONSTANTLY SUPPORT AND AID US. WE WORK WITH THE TENNESSEE SUICIDE PREVENTION NETWORK ON EDUCATING YOUTH AND THE PUBLIC ON PREVENTION. WE COLLABORATE WITH UT EXTENSION TO PROVIDE GRAND CONNECTS SUPPORT GROUP FOR CAREGIVERS IN OUR COUNTY. THIS GROUP MEETS ONCE A MONTH AND PROVIDES TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO THOSE RAISING A CHILD IN UNICOI COUNTY. IN 2022, WE PROVIDED OVER 5,000 RESOURCE GUIDES TO THE COMMUNITY. THE RESOURCE GUIDES HAVE CRISIS HOTLINE NUMBERS, RECOVERY GROUP INFORMATION, TREATMENT PROGRAMS, YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES, AND GENERAL INFORMATION ON SCHOOL PROGRAMS, RENT HELP, ETC.
