TO BRING TOGETHER THOSE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN HISTORY, AND ESPECIALLY IN THE HISTORY OF JACKSON COUNTY, KANSAS. SOCIETY IS DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF JACKSON COUNTY, KANSAS, ARTIFACTS, PRINTED MATERIALS, ORAL HISTORY, AND OTHER RELEVANT MATERIAL, WHICH SERVE TO RECORD THE HISTORY OF THE AREA. SOCIETY WILL BRING TOGETHER THOSE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THAT HISTORY AND WILL MAKE SUCH ITEMS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC FOR DISPLAY, RESEARCH, EDUCATIONAL, AND INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES.

DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE MUSEUMS WERE CLOSED; HOWEVER, JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY KANSAS STILL MANAGED TO KEEP A PUBLIC FACE.JACKSON COUNTY MUSEUM & ROEBKE HOUSE MEMORIAL MUSEUM: THE JACKSON COUNTY MUSEUM LOCATED AT 327 NEW YORK, HOLTON, KANSAS, IS AN 1880'S PERIOD TINSMITH BRICK BUILDING WITH ITS ORIGINAL TIN CEILING. MUSEUM THEME: WESTWARD, HO! EXHIBITS INCLUDE: COVERED WAGONS TO THE BARBED WIRE ERA. DISPLAYS INCLUDE: BUFFALO BILL, CARRIE NATION AND THE BARNES BROTHERS BASEBALL CAREER. OTHER DISPLAYS INCLUDE: A COUNTRY SCHOOLROOM AREA, WORLD WARS I & II MEMORABILIA, QUILTS, FASHIONS, DOLLS, LICENSE PLATES AND TOOLS. THE ROEBKE HOUSE MEMORIAL MUSEUM LOCATED AT 216 NEW YORK, HOLTON, KANSAS, IS A VICTORIAN HOME REFLECTING THE LOUIS ROEBKE FAMILY'S LIFE FROM THE 1880S TO THE 1980S. HOSTS ON AVERAGE 570 VISITORS PER YEAR AS WELL AS 50 - 70 GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS; HOWEVER, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE MUSEUMS WERE CLOSED.


THE RESEARCH HOUSE: LOCATED AT 208 NEW YORK, HOLTON, KANSAS, HAS GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL PAPERS, BOOKS, PICTURES, MAPS AND OTHER RESEARCH MATERIAL RELATED TO JACKSON COUNTY HISTORY. HOSTS ON AVERAGE 20 VISITORS PER YEAR AND RESPONDS TO 30 - 50 ONLINE INQUIRES VIA E-MAIL. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE RESEARH HOUSE WAS CLOSED FOR IN-PERSON VISITATIONS.


OTHER EVENTS INCLUDE CELEBRATION OF FOUNDERS DAY, CRUISE NIGHT AND BIKE ACROSS KANSAS, WHERE THE ORGANIZATION IS INVOLVED WITH PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF JACKSON COUNTY AND IS AVAILABLE FOR ANY QUESTIONS THE PUBLIC MAY ASK AT THESE EVENTS. IN ADDITION, ONE GRADUATING SENIOR WHO RESIDES IN JACKSON COUNTY IS AWARDED A $250 SCHOLARSHIP EACH APRIL AT THE SOCIETY'S FOUNDERS DAY MEETING. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, SEVERAL OF THESE EVENTS DID NOT TAKE PLACE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE 2021 SCHOLARSHIP WAS AWARDED IN THE SPRING WITHOUT ANY FACE-TO-FACE MEETING.
