YWS PROVIDES PERMANENT SANCTUARY TO ANIMALS NATIVE TO THE GREATER YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM THAT COULD NOT SURVIVE IN THE WILD BECAUSE THEY ARE INJURED, ORPHANED, OR HABITUATED TO HUMANS. IN 2021, YWS PROVIDED SANCTUARY TO BLACK BEAR, MOUNTAIN LION, BOBCAT, CANADA LYNX, GREY WOLF, COYOTE, RED FOX, BISON, RACCOON, PORCUPINE, SANDHILL CRANE, TURKEY VULTURE, CROW, RAVEN, OWL, SEVERAL RAPTORS, AS WELL AS A SNAKE AND SALAMANDER.
THE ANIMALS IN YWS'S CARE ARE THE HEART OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON GREATER YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM (GYE)WILDLIFE, HABITATS, AND CONSERVATION. YWS OFFERS INFORMATIVE SIGNAGE, GUIDED TOURS, AND PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS, TEACHERS, VISITORS, AND OTHER INTERESTED PEOPLE FROM OUR REGION, ACROSS THE UNITED STATES, AND FROM COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. IN 2021 IN-PERSON EDUCATION PROGRAMMING RECOVERED FROM THE PANDEMIC LOW OF 324 PARTICIPANTS IN 2020 TO 2,118 IN 2021. YWS CONTINUED TO BUILD ONLINE CONTENT WHICH ALLOWED IT TO REACH 802 PEOPLE VIRTUALLY AND 13,118 THROUGH ONLINE VIDEO AND MEDIA.
