Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AND FACILITATE EFFORTS THAT WILL ENHANCE, SUSTAIN, CONSERVE AND PROTECT THE NATURAL RESOURCES AND RURAL LIFESTYLE OF THE CLEARWATER WATERSHED FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

FOREST RESTORATION AND WILDFIRE SAFETY - THE SEELEY LAKE COMMUNITY IS SURROUNDED BY THOUSANDS OF ACRES OF FORESTS AND ROADLESS WILDERNESS. THIS WILDLAND-URBAN INTERFACE REPRESENTS A UNIQUE THREAT OF WILDFIRE FROM ALL DIRECTIONS. CRC'S FUEL MITIGATION PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ASSIST LANDOWNERS WITH REDUCING THE DENSITY OF TREES AND SHRUBS, THEREBY REDUCING THE FIRE RISK TO HOMES/PROPERTIES AND ECOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT LOW-ELEVATION FORESTS. CRC'S COMMUNITY FORESTER RESPONDS TO A LANDOWNER REQUEST FOR PROPERTY EVALUATION AND IF QUALIFIED, ASSISTS IN ACQUIRING COST-SHARE GRANTS FROM PUBLIC FUNDS TO ACHIEVE FUEL AND FIRE-RISK REDUCTION.

WATER QUALITY - THE HEALTH OF AN ECOSYSTEM, AQUATIC AND TERRESTRIAL, IS DEPENDENT ON WATER. WE LIVE IN ONE OF THE FEW AREAS WHERE WATER IS STILL COLD AND PURE. WE BELIEVE IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT THAT RESOURCE AND HAVE INSTITUTED VARIOUS PROJECTS THAT MONITOR AND ANALYZE LAKE AND STREAM CONDITIONS BY VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT THE REGION, AS WELL AS TEACHING LOCAL SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OUTDOOR CLASSROOMS, AND MONITORING FOR INVASIVE SPECIES.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH-PEOPLE ARE A CRITICAL ASPECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL WORK. WHILE PROGRAMS MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ONE PLACE, TEACHING CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT AND IMPACT WELL BEYOND THE PLACE THE LESSON IS TAUGHT. PEOPLE ALSO PROVIDE MANPOWER, FUNDS, AND IDEAS TO ENSURE PROGRAMS ARE EFFECTIVE AND LONG LASTING. IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE AWARE OF THE FRAGILITY AND NEED TO PROTECT OUR WATERSHED, WE HAVE INSTITUTED A NUMBER OF DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS, COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, AND PUBLIC MEDIA EDUCATION ARTICLES.
