MY VOICE MUSIC IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION BASED IN PORTLAND, OREGON THAT ENGAGES YOUTH IN MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE IN ORDER TO PROMOTE SELF-ESTEEM, SOCIAL SKILLS, AND EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION.MY VOICE MUSIC WILL PROVIDE UNDER-SERVED YOUTH WITH ENGAGING, RELEVANT, AND CHALLENGING EXPERIENCES IN MUSIC IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS. ANCHORED IN A BELIEF IN THE POWER OF MUSIC, RELATIONSHIP AND STORY, WE WILL BE GUIDED BY THOUGHTFUL RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP AND A DEEP COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION THROUGH EXPERIENCE.

MVM STUDIOS IS A FULL RECORDING STUDIO FOR EMERGING SONGWRITERS, MUSICIANS, BEAT MAKERS, AND POETS AGES 9-24. AT MVM STUDIOS WE OFFER VARIOUS CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, AND LONG-TERM MENTORSHIPS THAT HELP YOUNG ARTISTS FIND AND SHARE THEIR VOICE THROUGH WRITING, RECORDING AND PERFORMING MUSIC. THROUGH THE YEAR MVM STUDIOS SERVED 178 STUDENTS TOTAL. 16 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN RECORDING SESSIONS AND 30 RECEIVED INDIVIDUAL LESSONS. 47% OF STUDENTS RECEIVED FULL OR PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O. SUMMER 2023 WE HELD SIX WEEKS OF IN-PERSON SUMMER ROCK CAMPS. WE EXPANDED 3 CAMPS TO FULL DAY, IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE FOSTER YOUTH. 71 CAMPERS PARTICIPATED: FORMING A BAND, LEARNING THE BASICS OF SONGWRITING, TRYING THEIR HAND AT WRITING THEIR OWN SONGS, AND PERFORMING THEM IN A CONCERT FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THE END OF EACH WEEK. EVERY CAMPER WENT HOME WITH A CD-RECORDING OF THEIR SONGS. FOR THIS PROGRAM WE PARTNERED WITH SUMMERWORKS TO HIRE THREE OF OUR SUMMER ROCK CAMP FACILITATORS. THESE FACILITATORS RECEIVED ADDITIONAL COACHING, SUPPORT, AND TRANSIT BENEFITS THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, EARNING VALUABLE JOB SKILLS. SURVEY RESULTS DEMONSTRATE THE IMPACT OF MVM STUDIOS' CLASSES AND CAMPS: - AFTER PARTICIPATING IN MVM PROGRAMS. * 70% OF YOUTH ENJOY MUSIC MORE. * 70% OF YOUTH FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES. * 76% OF YOUTH LEARNED THEY COULD DO THINGS THEY COULDN'T DO BEFORE.- AFTER PARTICIPATING IN SUMMER CAMPS 60% OF YOUTH FEEL THEY WORK BETTER WITH OTHERS.IN WINTER FOR 2023 WE HELD WEEKLY MUSIC EXPLORATION SESSIONS TO SUPPORT FAMILIES AND YOUTH DURING THE PPS STRIKE.
MVM IS IN THE THIRD YEAR OF MVM ACROSS OREGON, AN INITIATIVE TO INVEST IN TRAUMA-INFORMED YOUTH MUSIC PROGRAMS AND TEACHING ARTISTS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE. IN 2023 WE RAN PROGRAMS FOR OVER 25 YOUTH AND TRAINED 2 TEACHING ARTISTS IN DESCHUTES COUNTY. WE ALSO TRAINED 4 TEACHERS FROM WASCO COUNTY. IN 2023 WE WILL CONTINUE TO TRAIN TEACHERS AND EXPLORE AN ACCREDITATION-STYLE PROGRAM TO MORE RESPONSIVELY MEET THE NEEDS TO RURAL NONPROFIT PARTNERS IN ADDITION TO HOSTING CAMPS AND WEEKLY PROGRAMS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ORGANIZATIONS DESCHUTES COUNTY.
MVM STUDIOS IN EAST PORTLAND - IN SEPTEMBER 2023 WE MOVED INTO OUR NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART HEADQUARTERS IN EAST PORTLAND. IN 2024 WE WILL WELCOME NONPROFIT PARTNERS ARTS FOR LEARNING AS SUB-TENANTS. WE WILL COLLABORATE ON PROGRAMS, WORKSHOPS, AND PROVIDE LOW COST ADA ACCESSIBLE SPACE FOR THEIR WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS. USE OF THE MVM STUDIOS PERFORMANCE SPACE WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED AT LITTLE TO NO COST TO PARTNER NONPROFITS WITH COMPLIMENTARY MISSIONS WHO FACE CHALLENGES IN FINDING AFFORDABLE ADA ACCESSIBLE YOUTH-FRIENDLY SPACES.IN SPRING OF 2024 MVM WILL HOST A SPRING BREAK CAMPS TARGETED FOSTER YOUTH. WE PROJECT OVER 90% OF PARTICIPANTS WILL ACCESS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THIS PROGRAM.
MVM'S SATELLITE PROGRAMS BRING SONGWRITING AND RECORDING PROGRAMS TO YOUTH LIVING IN RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTERS OR SECURE FOSTER CARE PLACEMENTS. IN 2023 OUR SATELLITE PROGRAM WORKED WITH ELEVEN DIFFERENT PARTNER FACILITIES: TRILLIUM PARRY CENTER; SAGE; HARMONY RECOVERY ACADEMY; DOUGY CENTER; ANISA'S PLACE, MACLAREN YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY; MORRISON CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES' COUNTERPOINT PROGRAM; P:EAR, PICKATHON, DR. MLK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES. THROUGH CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH PARTNER PROGRAM STAFF WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE SESSIONS TO OVER 700 YOUTH FACING CHALLENGES, INCLUDING, SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER, HOUSELESSNESS, SEXUAL EXPLOITATION, MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES, AND/OR BEHAVIORAL ISSUES. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O. 2023 ALSO SAW SIGNIFICANT PROGRAM DEVELOPMENTS AND HEADWAY WITH NEW INITIATIVES.
