CANTARE CON VIVO TO SING WITH LIFE IS A NONPROFIT 501C3 CHORAL MUSIC ORGANIZATION FOUNDED IN 1987 THAT ENGAGES PARTICIPANTS FROM AGES 4 TO 85 PRIMARILY FROM ALAMEDA AND CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES. ITS 100 VOICE SYMPHONIC CHORALE AND 26-VOICE CHAMBER EMSEMBLE OFFERS CONCERT PROGRAMS THAT ARE AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE. ITS AUDITION-FREE SUMMER ADULT CHOIR ATTRACTS OVER 100 SINGERS. CANTARES ADULT CHOIRS HAVE PERFORMED OVER 175 DIFFERENT CONCERT PROGRAMS AND PRESENTED MORE THAN 1,500 COMPOSITIONS, INCLUDING NUMEROUS MAJOR CHORAL/ORCHESTRAL WORKS. ADULT CHOIR SINGERS ARE NOT PAID AND COMMIT TO WEEKLY REHERSALS, PERFORMANCES AND PERSONAL EXPENSES AS THEY RELATE TO THEIR CHOIR. MANY VOLUNTEER IN NUMEROUS CAPACITIES, INCLUDING ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND COMMITTEES, AND IN CONCERT SET-UP, USHERING, TICKET COLLECTING, AND WITH THE CHILDRENS CHOIR PROGRAMS AS REHERSAL ASSISTANTS AND SERVING SNACKS AND MEALS AT CHILDRENS CONCERTS.
CANTARE PARTNERS WITH OAKLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS OFFERING TUITION-FREE CHOIR MUSIC EDUCATION IN 68 CLASSROOMS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY TO K-5 STUDENTS, REACHING APPROXIMATELY 2,500 STUDENTS EACH YEAR. STUDENTS LEARN DIVERSE FOLK SONGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD WHILE BUILDING FUNDAMENTAL MUSICAL SKILLS THROUGH A SEQUENTIAL CURRICULUM BASED ON THE NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS. SPECIAL UNITS ARE ALSO INCLUDED, PRESENTING THE MUSIC OF U. S. HISTORY AND CALIFORNIA HISTORY IN SPECIALIZED SESSIONS THAT PAIR WITH THE SCHOOLS LANGUAGE ARTS AND HISTORY LESSONS. THE HIGHLY SKILLED TEACHING ARTISTS WORK CLOSELY WITH SCHOOL STAFF TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION TO EVERY CHILD. CANTARES NOVA ENSEMBLE IS COMPRISED OF 25-30 OUTSTANDING SINGERS FROM ITS ELEMENTARY CHOIR PROGRAMS, BRINGING TOGETHER 6TH TO 12TH GRADERS FROM SEVERAL SCHOOLS ACROSS OAKLAND. NOVA OFFERS STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ON MORE CHALLENGING CHORAL MUSIC AND PART-SINGING AND PARTICIPATE IN CHORAL FESTIVALS AND PERFORMANCE TOURS.
