THE CIVIL LIBERTIES DEFENSE CENTER'S "JUSTICE IN ACTION" PROGRAM 1. PROVIDES LEGAL DEFENSE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS AND MOVEMENTS; AND 2. PROTECTS CIVIL LIBERTIES THROUGH IMPACT LITIGATION. 2021 PROGRAM PRIORITIES INCLUDED REPRESENTATION FOR CLIMATE, RACIAL JUSTICE, AND INDIGENOUS RIGHTS ACTIVISTS FACING CRIMINAL CHARGES AND FOR ADVOCATES AND COMMUNITIES DEFENDING THEMSELVES FROM CORPORATE-DRIVEN STRATEGIC LAWSUITS AGAINST PUBLIC PARTICIPATION (SLAPPS), AND PROACTIVE CIVIL RIGHTS LITIGATION FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATES HARMED BY EXCESSIVE POLICE FORCE.
