COMMUNITY BASED ALTERNATIVES TO DETENTION: OUR COMMUNITY-BASED ALTERNATIVE TO DETENTION PROGRAMMING TREATS PEOPLE WITH DIGNITY WHILE KEEPING PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES WHERE THEY BELONG. WE OPERATE A REVOLVING IMMIGRATION BOND FUND WHERE WE RAISE FUNDS TO POST BOND FOR DETAINED IMMIGRANTS, AND JUST THIS YEAR WE HAVE BONDED OUT 145 INDIVIDUALS FROM IMMIGRATION DETENTION, AND PROVIDED ASSISTANCE POST RELEASE. OUR VISION FOR A WORLD WITHOUT IMMIGRATION DETENTION INVOLVES A COMMUNITY INVESTMENT STRATEGY TO ENSURE IMMIGRANTS ARE WELCOMED INTO THE SOCIAL FABRIC OF SOCIETY.
MONITORING & INVESTIGATIONS: OUR NETWORK OF 55 AFFILIATED VISITATION PROGRAMS PROVIDES THE ONLY CONSISTENT FORM OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL, INDEPENDENT OVERSIGHT OF THE U.S. IMMIGRATION DETENTION SYSTEM. WE DOCUMENT, CATEGORIZE AND VERIFY, TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE, HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS ABUSES IN IMMIGRANT PRISONS AND JAILS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. WE ARE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH PEOPLE IN ALL 211 IMMIGRATION DETENTION FACILITIES THROUGH VISITS, TOURS AND OUR NATIONAL HOTLINE. OUR NATIONAL IMMIGRATION DETENTION HOTLINE CONNECTS IMMIGRANTS IN DETENTION TO THEIR FAMILY, RESOURCES, AND ABUSE DOCUMENTATION SUPPORT AT NO COST TO THEM. OUR 100 VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE OVER 40,000 CALLS PER YEAR FROM PEOPLE IN IMMIGRANT PRISONS AND JAILS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO REPORT ABUSE OR EXPOSE DEHUMANIZING CONDITIONS.
NATIONAL VISITATION NETWORK: WE ARE A NETWORK OF COMMUNITY-LED VISITATION GROUPS OPERATING IN 69 IMMIGRANT PRISONS AND JAILS IN 23 STATES WITH OVER 4,500 VISITOR VOLUNTEERS. WE SEEK TO END THE ISOLATION AND ABUSE OF PEOPLE IN IMMIGRATION DETENTION BY BUILDING AND STRENGTHENING VISITATION PROGRAMS. WE PROVIDE RESOURCES, TRAINING, AND CAPACITY BUILDING SUPPORT TO A NETWORK OF VISITATION PROGRAMS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.
POLICY ADVOCACY: WE PUSH FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGE IN FEDERAL AND STATE LAW BY USING A WIDE RANGE OF ADVOCACY TOOLS, INCLUDING INSIDE-OUTSIDE ORGANIZING, COALITION BUILDING, POLICY ADVOCACY, AND LITIGATION TO FIGHT FOR A COUNTRY WITHOUT IMMIGRATION DETENTION.
