ADULT EDUCATION IS A NECESSITY FOR MNM'S CLIENTS AND THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. WITH AN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE NEARLY TRIPLE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE AT 17%, EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING BENEFIT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. ADULT EDUCATION INCREASED ITS VIRTUAL OUTREACH AND ACCOMODATED BOTH STUDENTS AND TUTORS BY PROVIDING THE NECESSARY TECHNOLOGY AND INTERNET ACCESS TO COMPLETE THEIR LESSONS. IN 2022, MNM WILL OFFICIALLY ADD CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND JOB PLACEMENT TO ITS PORTFOLIO OF SERVICES AS AN EXTENSION OF THE ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM.
CHILDCARE SERVICES PROVIDE EARLY EDUCATION WITH HEAD START AND PRE-K COUNTS PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING AND SUMMER CAMP. EARLY EDUCATION SERVES 140 STUDENTS WITH AN ADVANCED CURRICULUM IN TWO KEYSTONE STARS LEVEL 4 ORGANIZATIONS. AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING IS LICENSED TO SERVE 149 STUDENTS DAILY WITH SERVICES RANGING FROM STEM TO ATHLETICS IN ONE OF THE TOP 50 PROGRAMS IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. MERCY NEIGHBORHOOD MINISTRIES BELIEVES THAT EARLY EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITY FOR THE YOUTH OF NORTH PHILADELPHIA IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY.
THE ADULT DAY PROGRAM AT MERCY NEIGHBORHOOD MINISTRIES OF PHILADELPHIA, INC. IS TAILORED TO PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE, SOCIALIZATION OPPORTUNITIES, AND ACTIVITIES FOR ANY ADULT AGE 60 AND OLDER. CARE IS SPECIALIZED FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY WITH DAILY ACTIVITIES DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS AND DISABILITIES INCLUDING DEMENTIA OR ALZHEIMER'S. THE ADULT DAY PROGRAM ALSO NURTURES THE SPIRITUALITY OF ACTIVE SENIOR CITIZENS WITH AN ANNUAL RETREAT. RETURNING FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, MNM IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE OF FOOD INSECURITY IN THEIR COMMUNITY. BY ESTABLISHING "MERCY MEALS," MNM NOW PROVIDES SHELF-STABLE GROCERIES AND HEALTHY SNACKS TO 300 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES WEEKLY.
