PRE-SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS/NC PRE-K ENHANCEMENTS OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN TO ATTEND PUBLIC PRE-KINDERGARTEN CLASSES. THE PURCHASE OF CARE AND ENHANCEMENTS ARE PAID ON A DIRECT PER CHILD BASIS TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS. 7 CHILDREN RECEIVED FULL SCHOLARSHIPS AND 136 CHILDREN WERE PROVIDED PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND PRESCHOOL THROUGH YADKIN COUNTY SCHOOLS.
EARLY CHILDHOOD RESOURCE CENTER OFFERS A VARIETY OF MATERIALS TO SUPPORT CHILD CARE PROVIDERS AND FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN'S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT. THE CENTER PROVIDES ACCESS TO CHILD DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES AND MATERIALS SUCH AS BOOKS, MANIPULATIVES, REFERENCE MATERIALS, AND CURRICULUM KITS. THE CENTER HOUSES A RESOURCE ROOM WITH ACCESS TO DIE CUTS, LAMINATING MACHINES, A COPIER, A BOOK BINDING MACHINE, AND BULLETIN BOARD SUPPLIES. 208 VISITS WERE MADE BY PROVIDERS AND THE COMMUNITY. 111 ITEMS WERE CHECKED OUT OF THE LENDING LIBRARY.
THE NURTURING PARENTING PROGRAM, NURTURING SKILLS FOR FAMILIES HOME-BASED PROGRAM PROVIDED FOR FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN BIRTH TO FIVE, LIVING IN YADKIN COUNTY AND AT RISK OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT AND/OR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. ONE FULL-TIME PARENT EDUCATOR PROVIDED WEEKLY FACE TO FACE VISITS FOR 16 TO 24 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS TO 27 FAMILIES. THROUGH THE FACE-TO-FACE VISITS PARENTS LEARN ABOUT NURTURING PARENTING ROUTINES, ALTERNATIVES TO HITTING, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND WAYS TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-CONCEPT IN SELF AND CHILDREN. THE PARENT EDUCATOR IMPLEMENTED CORE LESSONS THAT MET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE FAMILY. THE NURTURING PARENTING PROGRAM PROVIDED WEEKLY HOSPITAL VISITATION FOR FAMILY ENGAGEMENT AND RECRUITMENT TO THE PROGRAM. 285 WEEKLY HOME VISITS WERE PROVIDED.
