AMERICAN APPRENTICESHIP INITIATIVE: TO CREATE NATIONAL FRAMEWORKS FOR APPRENTICESHIP WITH MENTORING AND TRAIN-THE-TRAINER FOR BUS (MAINTENANCE & OPERATOR), RAIL VEHICLE, SIGNALS AND ELEVATOR-ESCALATOR TECHNICIANS.
FTA REDESIGN OF TRANSIT BUS OPERATOR COMPARTMENT TO IMPROVE SAFETY, OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY, AND PASSENGER ACCESSIBILITY: THIS PROJECT WILL REDESIGN A VAN HOOL BUS TO INCORPORATE INNOVATIVE, PROVEN SOLUTIONS TO ISSUES OF OPERATOR SAFETY AND HEALTH, PASSENGER ACCESSIBILITY, AND VISIBILITY. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF AN EXPERT OVERSIGHT TEAM, A LEADING TRANSIT INDUSTRIAL DESIGN FIRM WILL INCORPORATE SOLUTIONS FROM MULTIPLE SUPPLIERS INTO A TOTAL VEHICLE REDESIGN THAT MEETS THE FTA'S STATED OBJECTIVES. THE KEY PARTNERS WILL PROMOTE THE DESIGN TO INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS THROUGH VARIOUS INFORMATION EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES.
FTA TRANSIT WORKFORCE CENTER (TWC): THE TRANSIT WORKFORCE CENTER WILL SUPPORT PUBLIC TRANSIT AGENCIES' WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT NEEDS FOR ALL MODES OF PUBLIC TRANSIT ACROSS URBAN, TRIBAL, AND RURAL ENTITIES. THE OVERARCHING MISSION OF THIS NEW CENTER IS TO ASSIST PUBLIC TRANSIT AGENCIES TO RECRUIT, HIRE, TRAIN, AND RETAIN THE DIVERSE WORKFORCE NEEDED NOW AND IN THE FUTURE. THE TWC WILL ALSO HELP ADDRESS THE NATIONAL TRANSIT WORKER SHORTAGE BY PROVIDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ACTIVITIES GEARED TOWARDS DEVELOPING FRONTLINE TRANSIT WORKERS' SKILLS AND RECRUITING WORKERS TO TRANSIT CAREERS THROUGH VARIOUS PROGRAMS, SUCH AS APPRENTICESHIPS, AND PARTNERSHIPS.
