Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE MSB WAS EXCITED TO GET BACK TO POST PANDEMIC TOURING IN 2023. THE TOUR CHOIR WAS ABLE TO VISIT NEW MEXICO AND COLORADO AND THE CONCERT CHOIR PERFORMED IN MAINE, NOVA SCOTIA, AND NEW BRUNSWICK. THROUGH TOURING, MSB CHORISTERS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP A HIGH LEVEL OF SELF-MOTIVATED LEARNING AND SELF-DISCIPLINE WHILE DEMONSTRATING MATURITY AND RESPONSIBILITY AS PERFORMERS. IN ADDITION TO THESE EXTENDED SUMMER TOURS, MSB CHOIRS PARTICIPATED IN FALL AND WINTER WEEKEND TOURS AS WELL AS THE YOUNG MEN'S CHORUS FEBRUARY TOUR TO CHARLESTON AND SAVANNAH.
THE MSB RESUMED WINTER WEEKEND CAMP IN 2023 AS WELL AS HOSTED THE ANNUAL WEEK-LONG RESIDENTIAL SUMMER CAMP AT ST. MARY'S COLLEGE. DURING TIME AT CAMP, THE BOYS LEARN NEW REPERTOIRE FOR UPCOMING TOURS AND FOR THE UPCOMING FALL SEASON. THEY ALSO PARTICIPATE IN A NUMBER OF MUSIC AND NON-MUSIC RELATED ELECTIVES, ENJOY PEER-TO-PEER INTERACTION, AND LEARN MANNERS AND SOCIAL SKILLS. THESE TWO CAMPS FOCUS ON TEACHING CHORISTERS SELF-RELIANCE, RESPONSIBILITY, AND INDEPENDENCE. IN THE ANNUAL RITUAL KNOWN AS "SUMMER CAMP," CHORISTERS LEARN HOW TO PUT ASIDE "ME AND BECOME THE REMARKABLE "WE" THAT IS THE KEY TO THE MARYLAND STATE BOYCHOIR.
DURING THE CHORAL SEASON, THE ORGANIZATION TRAINED OVER 100 BOYS IN THE DEMANDING ART OF CHORAL SINGING THROUGH GROUP REHEARSALS AND INDIVIDUALIZED VOCAL LESSONS. TRAINING INCLUDES RECOGNIZING NOTE VALUES AND MUSIC NOTATIONS WITH AN EMPHASIS THAT MUSIC IS A LANGUAGE. WHILE THE STAFF IS WELL AWARE OF THE YOUNG AGE OF MANY OF THESE SINGERS, THEY EXPECT A SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM FROM EACH BOY. THE INDIVIDUAL DESIRE FOR EXCELLENCE LEADS TO A CULTURE OF COOPERATION AND MUTUAL SUPPORT AS THE CHOIR STRIVES TO PRODUCE THE BEST ENSEMBLE SOUND POSSIBLE.
