SUPPORTING INTERNATIONAL SRHR ADVOCACYIN 2023, POPULATION ACTION INTERNATIONAL (PAI) WORKED WITH LOCAL, GLOBAL MAJORITY ORGANIZATIONS, PROVIDING 59 PARTNERS IN 30 COUNTRIES WITH $2.6 MILLION IN GRANTS, ADVOCACY SUPPORT AND STRATEGIC GUIDANCE TO ADVANCE SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS (SRHR) IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES. PAI'S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS FOCUS ON ADVOCATING AND SECURING GLOBAL, NATIONAL AND SUBNATIONAL POLICIES AND BUDGETS THAT ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY, RIGHTS-BASED SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INFORMATION AND SERVICES, INCLUDING ADOLESCENT HEALTH, MENSTRUAL HEALTH, COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION, CONTRACEPTION, MATERNAL AND NEWBORN HEALTH, AND SAFE ABORTION AND POST-ABORTION CARE.
INCUBATING NEW PARTNERSHIPSPAI CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE SECRETARIAT FOR THE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PERFORMANCE INITIATIVE (PHCPI), WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER COUNTRY POLICYMAKERS, HEALTH SYSTEM MANAGERS, PRACTITIONERS, ADVOCATES, OTHER DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS, AND THE COMMUNITY TO CATALYZE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE QUALITY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE (PHC). PHCPI ALSO ACCELERATES PRIMARY HEALTHCARE IMPROVEMENT IN LOW- AND MIDDLE-INCOME COUNTRIES THROUGH RIGOROUS MEASUREMENT, STRATEGIC KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT, IMPACTFUL ADVOCACY, AND ACTIVE COUNTRY ENGAGEMENT TO ACHIEVE QUALITY UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE MORE EFFICIENTLY, QUICKLY AND EQUITABLY.
CHAMPIONING U.S. GOVERNMENT SUPPORT OF SRHRU.S. GOVERNMENT RELATIONS, INCLUDING LOBBYING FOR STRONG LEGISLATION, FOREIGN ASSISTANCE POLICIES, AND INCREASED FUNDING TO SUPPORT SRHR WORLDWIDE, IS ONE OF PAI'S PRIMARY AREAS OF FOCUS. THROUGH THIS WORK, PAI HAS SUCCESSFULLY CULTIVATED A BROAD, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND ENGAGED BASE OF SRHR CHAMPIONS IN CONGRESS. PAI ALSO SERVES AS THE CO-CHAIR OF THE INTERNATIONAL FAMILY PLANNING COALITION (IFPC), WHICH ADVOCATES FOR RIGHTS-BASED POLICIES THAT EXPAND ACCESS TO SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES, INCLUDING CONTRACEPTION AND ABORTION, THROUGHOUT U.S. FOREIGN ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS U.S. FUNDING FOR BILATERAL FAMILY PLANNING AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROGRAMS AND U.S. CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNFPA. THIS D.C.-BASED COALITION COMPRISES NEARLY 65 ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, AND IMPLEMENTING ORGANIZATIONS WITH EXPERTISE ON A RANGE OF SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, RIGHTS, AND JUSTICE ISSUES AND RELATED HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT TOPICS. THE COALITION ALSO WORKS WITH U.S. POLICYMAKERS, CROSS-SECTOR PARTNERS, THE MEDIA, AND GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVANCE OUR ADVOCACY AGENDA TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH, RIGHTS, AND LIVES OF WOMEN, GIRLS, YOUNG PEOPLE, THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD.
